With how well Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to sell, despite being a seven year-old game, it’s no wonder that Rockstar is continuing to prioritize working on it, as best demonstrated with its announcement for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
However, while it and Grand Theft Auto Online continue to be really popular, fans are still hungry for a sequel. Rockstar itself hasn’t technically confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is actually in development, but it’s safe to assume that it will happen at some point; all that’s needed is the official announcement.
For the time being, fans have had to make do with constant rumors and hearsay, with some of them claiming that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development. Now, the latest one not only might corroborate this but it has some fans thinking/hoping that the next game will see the setting of Vice City make a return.
This comes from a tweet posted by Vector Hold, a “solo retro 80’s Electro Synth project,” which stated that music rights people were contacting Synthwave artists to make music for a radio station. Previous GTA games have featured dedicated electronic music stations so GTA 6 possibly having one isn’t too much of a surprise.
However, the Tweet also added that the game is most likely set in Vice City. The tweet has since been deleted, though a screenshot of it was saved for posterity’s sake.
There have been rumors of a returning Vice City for a good couple of years now and it should be noted that Vector Hold’s comment suggests that it is only a theory on their part and not a direct confirmation based on private knowledge it has received. The tweet being deleted is possibly because it and/or Rockstar don’t want to risk false information being spread. It also doesn’t confirm that Rockstar is recruiting musicians for something Grand Theft Auto related.
For the time being, all fans most definitely have to look forward to are further updates to Grand Theft Auto Online and it, alongside GTA 5, re-releasing on next-gen systems. Rockstar has even provided players another reason to upgrade to those future releases, as GTA Online on PS5 and Xbox Series X will receive new, exclusive content. It didn’t clarify what that content is but it will also be made available for PC users.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
