Grand Theft Auto is one of the most loved video game series out there. With so many different ways to play this game, places to explore, driving, causing chaos, and even playing with friends online, it’s no wonder this game has made such an impact on the video game world.
Nothing has ever even come close to the stature of GTA, especially the massive beast known as GTA V. But today we’re not talking about any of the current games. We’re here to discuss some of the most outrageous theories for Grand Theft Auto VI, as well as some reasonable options for the game.
We’ve balanced this list so there’s a good mix of crazy and reasonable, but at the end of the day with no announcement from Rockstar, we have to wonder when the next GTA installment will even be. We do know that if some of these very popular theories are true in any way, this game could be in the works for a very long time. All we know is that Grand Theft Auto VI will be on of the most game changing creations we’ve ever seen on any platform. Even if it only comes out on PlayStation next gen consoles (we really hope that’s not the case)!

15 Likely: Celeb Guest Stars
There are so many celebrities in the GTA series that are actually voiced by themselves. It’s been rumored that Eva Mendes and her husband Ryan Gosling will both be in the game as themselves, or as made up versions of themselves. Either way, it would be interesting to see how Rockstar wants to twist this couple to fit into the storyline. Some people have even said that this celebrity couple will be the main characters of the game, but we have our doubts when the rumor gets stretched this far. Since GTA has had celebrities such as Samuel L. Jackson and even James Wood, we feel like anything is possible on this front. Let us know what celebrity guest stars you’d like to see in the game!
14 Too Crazy: Time Travel Mods?
We really have our doubts about this one, because usually really specific elements that are added to the game usually are either added to multiplayer aspects of the game or are mods. But this has made the list because of how many people have shown their love for the Back The The Future mod that was released for GTA Vice City. So many loved this mod that people have demanded that it be apart of the base game for release. But many people have also released their ideas of how this mod could actually be an essential part of the GTA experience and storyline. Many people have suggested that players could go back in time to fix issues to change the future.
13 Likely: More Character Customization
We know that Rockstar is thinking about allowing players to customize the main storyline character, but what about multiplayer customization? People have speculated that they will be putting much more work into the quality of what the characters look like and also having more diversity throughout the character creation. While you could always alter the hair, clothes, and qualities of your online GTA character, if you look at the faces of the characters, they’re all the same. We admit that it would be nice to be able to change the facial appearance of our characters like you can in The Sims, so it really makes our characters stand out from the rest. This way we would be able to really connect with our characters and get into the game on a whole new level!
12 Too Crazy: Online Only With No Story
It’s probably too crazy to even mention, but there’s rumors that the next one won’t have a story! The main reason we really doubt this will be possible is because the story is what actually makes the game. But if Rockstar did push for an online-only experience, they would really have a ton of work to do to make it worthwhile. Plus, if they chose to make this change, they would be smart to avoid pay to play features in the experience, unlike their last game. We’d be very scared and eager to see what they do with this if they choose to head in this direction with the game, but like we said we really doubt this would happen.
11 Likely: You Can Destroy Everything
This is a rumor that’s been floating around for some time now, especially after playing GTA V. Being able to destroy everything, from the buildings to cars, might seem unrealistic, but can you image how much fun it would be? We really hope that they’ll allow only people who have really worked to earn the most powerful weapons to destroy areas of the cities and environments. Otherwise it would be pretty annoying to play online with this feature! Who knows, they might even make this into a separate kind of lobby, just so people can have the choice to not be involved. If elements can be destroyed on this massive scale, let’s hope they figure out a way to balance the graphics.
10 Likely: Bring On The Role Playing
Many games today offer a wide selection of choices to the player, from character customization, to choosing which side of the story you want to be on. The GTA games have always laid out the storyline for you. Many of the stories have been set in stone, while you can alter the outcomes of situations in some cases, but they don’t really make a difference at the end of the game. With this in mind, can you imagine being able to choose what kind of story you want to see play out? This is probably one of the most wanted changes in the game. It would add so much more depth and it would really get more people invested in the game series as a whole. Rockstar seemed to do a bit of this by offering three main characters in GTA V, but hopefully they’ll go all the way.
9 Too Crazy: You Can Play In VR?
VR is a new craze that’s taking over the gaming world and it’s no wonder because of how immersive it can be. VR puts you right there in the middle of the game. With more and more games on the marketplace grabbing ahold of this trend, it’s safe to say that any game coming out within the next two years will probably experiment with VR capabilities. Can you imagine playing multiplayer games in VR on GTA, or even racing in VR? This would be so much better than always playing in the constant third person view that the game offers. The visuals would be fantastic, crisp, and clear, and you would be surrounded by the amazing graphics. What would you be most excited to experience in Grand Theft Auto VI if VR was an option?
8 Likely: Not Until The Future
We briefly mentioned this possibility at the start of this article, but it’s very important we all take a step back and realize that it might be a long time coming until we can actually play Grand Theft Auto VI. Not only because of how many changes will be created for the next GTA game, but also because Rockstar is currently focusing on Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s safe to say that a mammoth game like GTA VI won’t be around until 2020! Some sources have tried their best to prove that it could be coming out in late 2018, but honestly there’s a very low chance that it’s released that soon. We’d be honestly worried if it did come out then, because it would most likely mean that the game is rushed. We’d rather wait longer for a game that is high quality and innovative.
7 Too Crazy: Custom Storyline Character
In the GTA series, you’ve always been able to customize your character in some way for online multiplayer. But we haven’t ever seen character customization in the main storyline of the game. We do love how intricate the characters are in the main storylines of the series. They’ve always been memorable and had a serious purpose and backstory for the game. But it would be pretty cool to play as a custom character! This would really help the immersion levels of the game. You’d really be able to connect with your character and it would be very interesting to see how they incorporate a character into the story. Can you imagine being able to create yourself as a character and see the whole main storyline from your own perspective?
6 Likely: A New First Person Mode?
One of the biggest complaints from the GTA V community was the fact that you can’t go into first person mode when playing the game. The closest thing would be when you aim through the sights of your gun. Hopefully Rockstar pays attention and adds this much-needed element into the next game. While it might seem like a small detail that doesn’t really matter, trust us, it really does. If there’s going to be a game with guns, there should be a similar system put in place like in COD or Battlefield. In addition to the first person mode, we also would love to see a better minimap for these online battles as well. That would be the perfect addition without a doubt!
5 Too Crazy: Only On PlayStation
This better be a lie, because this rumor is about to break so many people! Especially since so many more individuals play PC and Xbox One. But the rumor has been floating around that GTA VI will be PlayStation 5 only. This does seem to be one of the farther reaching ideas than all of the other ideas on this list (thank god), because there’s no way they would limit themselves in this way. Not only would Rockstar lose so much money and profit by doing this, it would probably turn so many people away from the franchise as a whole. Since this rumor has only been on forums, it’s pretty safe to say that this won’t actually happen. But it sure did cause us to have a good scare in the meantime!
4 Likely: All The Cities From Past Games
Can you imagine if Grand Theft Auto VI opened up the world in a way that includes all of the cities from previous games? Many believed this would happen in some way or another. GTA has always been one of the best examples of an open world game. They’ve always impressed us with every release they’ve created. Can you imagine how epic it would be to plan a road trip with your friends online all across the United States? If they did include all of the cities, it would have everything from Downtown Los Angeles to New York City. They might even create new major cities to highlight as well, or even release future cities as patches or downloads. We can only dream!
3 Too Crazy: All Characters From Past Games
If all the characters did actually come back to play a role in the new GTA, it would make sense if they brought back cities too. But if they don’t do that, it seems a bit too far fetched. In many Grand Theft Auto VI theories, it’s come up that Rockstar might include older versions of these characters as an easter egg. This makes a ton of sense, especially since they’ve done this in many ways in past games. But many people believe that they will play a huge role in the upcoming GTA game. That wouldn’t make sense! In many of the past games, there has been closure for the characters, whether they’ve moved on in their life or passed away. It wouldn’t make a ton of sense to throw them all back in the action.
2 Likely: Only Next Gen Consoles
A huge reason as to why many people believe the game won’t be launched until 2020 is because game developers seem to be waiting for better graphics. The only way to achieve better and more stable graphics for the projects they want to do would be to wait until the development of next gen consoles. Even if they release the game on current consoles, they will most likely be prepared to shift their game to next gen when it’s finally released. That also worries us because we have yet to hear any news of when a new consoles will be coming out. Neither Sony or Microsoft have announced new consoles that are in the works. This could mean that it’d take even longer to come.
1 Too Crazy: Possibly Set In London
Yes, you read that right, London! While we don’t exactly believe that this will actually be the case, it sure is in high demand. The same goes for Tokyo, but we decided to focus on London, simply because the first installment of Grand Theft Auto was in the same area. Fans have constantly reminded Rockstar how much they want a GTA game based in a different country. There would be so many potential possibilities if Rockstar did choose to focus on a different country and the city of London. They could focus on the queen and the monarchy, maybe your character could even take over the city and become the new King or Queen! How amazing would that be? We know we would be playing this game 24/7 if they did choose to have a plot like this!
