Many parents are finding themselves spending a lot more time with their kids in light of the shelter in place orders happening all around the country as well as numerous school closures due to the Coronavirus, so parents should find ways to make the most of this time. PlayStation Plus subscribers have been receiving two to three free games every month for as long as they were subscribed, so long as they remembered to load up the PS4 and add these games to their library, and there are several great games which many subscribers might not realize they have that are fun to play with kids.
For those unaware, PlayStation Plus provides subscribers with two to three free games a month, all subscribers have to do is go to the PlayStation Store and select add to library and these games will be available for download at any time in the future. Many players make it a point to always add the free games to their libraries, but after a while it can be easy to forget what free games one actually has. These are some great, kid-friendly games which were free on PlayStation Plus that some players may actually already own.
Overcooked
Overcooked was free on PlayStation Plus during May of last year, and is a whole lot of fun for the whole family. Featuring a four player couch co-op story mode and gameplay mechanics that are simple enough for most kids around the age of seven or older to grasp, this hectic experience is truly a blast. Players must rush to fulfill orders found in the top left corner of the screen in order to reach their goal. Emphasizing teamwork and efficiency is important, but if playing with kids don’t let the three star ranking system bother them too much. Overcooked’s sequel is tons of fun as well if this one is enjoyable.
Portal Knights
Portal Knights was free for PS Plus subscribers in January of last year, and is another great game for kids which really inspires creativity. Similar to the ever popular Minecraft, Portal Knights sees players exploring, building, crafting, and adventuring in a blocky world alongside their friends. The difference here is that the graphics are more stylized and there is more of a story, including NPCs to interact with and quests to complete. This game does have a split screen mode, making it a perfect choice for creative and intelligent children to play with their parents or older siblings.
Sonic Forces
Sonic Forces is one of the free PS Plus games in March, so for those looking for a game to play with their kids, don’t hesitate to boot up that PS4 and download it. Unfortunately, this game doesn’t have any form of co-op, online or otherwise, but can still be a good experience to sit through or take turns on. The game is relatively short, too, so it certainly isn’t a large commitment. One great thing about this Sonic game in particular is that it lets the player create a custom character to work with Sonic and his friends, something kids are sure to love.
These are just a few of the PS Plus games which have been given out that make for a great time with kids and parents alike, but there are bound to be many others. Additionally, more will come soon, possibly from this PS Plus wishlist in April. In order to view what games are currently in the library, navigate over to the library icon, usually found on the right most side of the main menu. After opening the library, scroll down to purchased icon on the left hand side and all of the purchased but not installed games can be found in this list.
