Even though it has only just come out in early access form, Grounded has a ton of content to explore and survive. As you build your bases, fight off insects, and collect resources around the yard, you might notice a few things your basic axe can’t collect. Or, perhaps you noticed a few tools and weapons listed in the workbench tools tab you haven’t been able to craft yet. If you want to know how to make the most powerful axe currently available in Grounded, this guide will show you how.
Insect Axes are the level two version of the basic Pebblet Axe you will start off the game with. This new and improved chopping tool not only has better stats all around, but will give you the ability to hack down even bigger weeds for more crafting materials. Crafting one isn’t the most complicated task, but be ready to face some angry insects in the process.
Gathering The Materials
The first material you’re going to need to win is a Ladybug Head, which, as you probably already assumed, will mean killing a Ladybug. These big red beasts don’t have any specific territory in the yard they are more likely to be, but rather seem to go wherever they please. It may take a little time to track one down, but they’re not terribly uncommon.
Once you manage to find one, don’t underestimate it. They hit hard and can stun you, so be ready to block and dodge. If you have the opportunity to jump on top of one, you can freely smack it to death without it being able to do anything to stop you.
After getting the Ladybug Head, the next materials on the list are three Bombardier Parts. Once you’re ready to go out hunting again, head over to the western side of the map by the rake to take on some Bombardier Beetles. These guys are ruthless, spitting acid and dealing a ton of damage, so make sure you’re geared up with the best armor and weapons you’ve got.
Last up is four Spider Silk, but don’t worry if you aren’t feeling up to the task of fighting a bunch of Wolf Spiders or Orb Weaver Spiders quite yet. Spider Silk can also be taken without fighting at all, and there is a spot you can find some with far less dangerous Spiderlings living in near the large rock by the rake you were just at. Find a crack in the rock on the east side that takes you down into a den of spiders where there’s usually a couple Spiderlings to take down before you’re free to grab as much Spider Silk as you can carry.
Crafting The Insect Axe
Now that you’ve returned with your hard earned materials, it’s finally time to get that level 2 Insect Axe. Before you have the option to craft the axe, make sure you first head over to your Analyzer and scan the Ladybug Head. This will unlock the Insect Axe recipe. From there, just access your workbench, add in all the materials you collected, and pull out your top-tier axe. With it, you can now start felling weeds for the materials you’ll need to build things like doors and roofs.
