There are plenty of people undergoing self-quarantine at the moment and this includes several celebrities. While in self-quarantine the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy films, James Gunn, answered fan questions on Instagram. One of these questions was about his favorite game in terms of story-telling and although the director didn’t pick a Guardians of the Galaxy game, he did pick a title from the Sci-Fi genre that was a huge hit.
The comedic tone of the first Guardians of the Galaxy film set it apart from more serious superhero titles, and the impressive box office performance of the film showed that fans enjoyed the change of pace. Unsurprisingly, fans are now looking forward to a third installment and hoping that it can top the previous titles. While that may be hard to do, the Q&A with Gunn certainly suggests that the director has a good taste in Sci-Fi games and not just films.
The director revealed that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was, in fact, his favorite game in terms of story-telling. Knights of the Old Republic had an abundance of story and many fans of the Marvel and Star Wars franchise will be pleased with this response. Both of these franchises are Disney properties and although James Gunn is undoubtedly busy with a third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, many would be thrilled to see him collaborate on a rumored remake of the Star Wars game.
The rumor of Star Wars: Knights of the Republic coming back has excited fans and after the success of EA’s last venture into the Star Wars canon it may be an option that the publisher is seriously considering. It is apparent that the series has numerous fans and in this instance some celebrity players as well. On the back of the games impressive following, there are discussions about a film installment of the game, but this seems to be in very early development.
Those who are hoping for James Gunn to be involved in the Star Wars cinematic universe are out of luck, when asked about joining the franchise he stated: “No it doesn’t really interest me as a filmmaker.” With a script almost completed for Knights of the Old Republic, it will be interesting to see how it develops. In the meantime, players will have to settle for James Gunn directing a different Disney franchise, but at least gamers now know that their fandom is shared with a successful director.
