Indie 3DS darling Gunman Clive heads to the PlayStation 4 later this month.
The title sort of implies that Gunman Clive was a 3DS game, but it actually was an indie game made for mobile and PC first back in 2012. It was then ported to the Nintendo 3DS in 2013 where it saw its greatest success. The majority of Gunman Clive’s sales (and that of its sequel, Gunman Clive 2) were sold on the 3DS, although it was later packaged together and sold as an HD remaster on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.
Now that same HD remaster is moseying on over to the PlayStation 4.
It’s called the Gunman Clive HD Collection, and it’s a bundle that includes both the original and its sequel. That’s 40 levels of rootin’-tootin’, platform-shootin’ action. Many have described Gunman Clive as an homage to classic platform shooters like Contra and Mega Man, but Clive’s distinctive art style and authentic Old West soundtrack set it apart.
The game might be called Gunman Clive, but you don’t have to just play as the titular gunman. Ms. Johnson is also available as a female protagonist who can freeze time while shooting and also floats back to the ground Princess Peach style. After beating the game once, you can also play as a duck.
That’s not a typo. You can play as a duck. You also fight dinosaurs and ride giant pandas while shooting giant Wild Wild West-style robots.
It’s a wacky game, and now it’s coming to the PS4. Publisher Flyhigh Works has finished porting the Gunman Clive HD Collection to Sony’s current console, and it’ll be available for purchase starting on May 22nd. As far as we’re aware, it’s the same HD Collection you can get on the Switch or Wii U, only with uprated resolution for the PS4’s beefier graphics.
Price is currently unknown, but it’ll likely be more than the $2 that the original Gunman Clive sold for on mobile back in 2012.
