Gwent fans and card game players rejoice! The next expansion, Master Mirror, is available now.

The new expansion introduces over 70 new cards. The game also introduces seven new mechanics. The new devotion mechanic helps cards, but only if the deck contains one faction. Echo moves cards from graveyards to the top of their owner’s deck, but they also get doomed, which means when the card moves to the graveyard they are removed from the game. The veteran mechanic increases the power of units by 1 at the start of the second and third rounds. Conspiracy abilities trigger if target units have Spying, or cards that players play on their opponent’s boards. Symbiosis is a mechanic that activates when players play nature cards. Symbiosis cards spawn Treant, which power is equal to the number of cards with Symbiosis under a player’s control. Veil units cannot be targeted by friendly or enemy abilities. Rupture is given to enemy units, and then those units damage themselves equal to their power during that turn only.

A new card type is also being introduced to Gwent. Legendary cards that evolve during the game. The legendary cards also come from some of the most iconic Witcher characters. Players can collect The Usurper for Nilfgaard, Jacques de Aldersberg for the Syndicate, Harald the Cripple for Skellige, Auberon Muircetach’s for Monsters, Viraxas for the Northern Realms, and Eithne for Scoia’tael. Each evolving card should provide powerful new options and open up new strategies for the factions.

New expansions are always exciting, no matter what the card game is. Opening packs is always fun and pulling new and exciting cards to add to decks. With COVID-19 locking everybody inside, digital card games like Gwent are one of many digital options to keep card players sane until card shops can open up again.

Gwent’s 5th expansion is available now. Players can play for free on PC, Android, and iOS platforms. The evolving cards add powerful new units that get stronger over time, and new mechanics should shake up the metagame. Good luck to the Gwent players opening card packs today, and hopefully they get the pulls they were looking for.
