Indie darling Hades took home some big wins at this year’s BAFTA Games Awards. Supergiant Games ended up cleaning house at the award ceremony winning Best Game, Artistic Achievement, Game Design, Narrative, and Performance in a Supporting Role for Logan Cunningham. The Last of Us Part 2 however won the hearts of audiences everywhere as the title won their vote during the awards.
Hades first came out last September as Supergiant’s next title in their library of beloved games. The roguelike action RPG had you play as Zagreus, the son of Hades who must escape the underworld by fighting through a series of random rooms as he comes across various enemies, improving his deadly arsenal with each death. The game received critical acclaim from critics and audiences for its stylized gameplay, narrative, and character development. It has received accolades from its peers, earning a Game of the Year from various publications, even winning Best Indie and Action Game at the Game Awards.
Just like Hades, The Last of Us Part 2 has also received much praise since its release last Summer. Continuing from the previous game, players follow the journeys of Ellie and Abby in a post-apocalyptic world. Naughty Dog’s latest picked up much Game of the Year recognition and even achieved the most trophies at The Game Awards, picking up seven of them in total.
This time, BAFTA was the one giving most of its awards to Hades, winning for its design, story, and gameplay. The game also recognized Logan Cunningham for his voice work on the game, where he voiced six characters including Lord Hades, Poseidon, and Achilles. The Last of Us also shared in the glory winning Game of the Year based on votes from the public as well as Animation and Lead Performer for Laura Bailey in her role as Abby. However, Hades did gain the biggest award of the night with Best Game, which was nominated alongside The Last of Us Part 2.
Anyone wanting to try out both of 2020’s best games can play them now with The Last of Us Part 2 on the PS4 while Hades is available for PC and Nintendo Switch.
