It seems the recent test flight periods for Halo 2: Anniversary Edition on PC were fruitful. In a quick post this afternoon, Microsoft and 343 Industries announced that Halo 2: Anniversary Edition will be coming to the PC version of The Master Chief Collection next week on May 12, 2020. It will be available via Steam and the Windows Store as well as being a part of Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Often heralded as the best entry during Bungie’s stint with the series, I’m not sure I hold that same opinion. It was more of a “right place, right time” kind of game more than anything. Its campaign has a very controversial twist and ending and its multiplayer component was far outclassed by basically every subsequent installment. It still holds a place in people’s hearts, though, and I can’t deny the soundtrack is killer.

If you’re wondering what the Anniversary Edition adds, it is pretty similar to the work done on the first Halo. You’ll find completely redone character models and textures with a hot-swap to the original style. Remastered music is also included and every bit of DLC released for the game (one of the first titles in the industry to support the feature!) is included.

The PC port will come with the standard features fans expect. There will be 21:9 monitor support, uncapped framerates, fully customizable controls, and 4K resolution output. It’s rather beefy, though both Reach and Halo: CE had some issues on PC. Hopefully, Halo 2 launches without a hitch.
