Halo 3’s PC launch will be including a super cool feature in the form of a new jetpack skull, allowing players to have a grand old time flying their way through the new PC port.

You’ll recall jetpacks featuring before in the series with Halo: Reach. It turns out they were also going to be a thing in Halo: Combat Evolved before Bungie opted to veto that (but still keep it as a developer tool), and now they’re back.

More details are provided regarding the jetpack skull (along with a lengthy list of other updates) in a recent development update post on Halo Waypoint. The skull was brought in pretty last-minute as a cool way to commemorate the game’s PC launch. According to the post, the dev team has been wanting to add new skulls to the series’ later games, but they were always pretty apprehensive to do so because of the risk of messing the system up:

I ended up taking the evening to figure out how I could extend Halo 3 to support new skulls without breaking the existing ones or systems that assumed they were the only skulls. To my surprise, it was actually pretty straightforward.

Halo 3 launches for PC as part of the Halo: Master Chief Collection “in the not-so-distant-future,” according to the update log
