Halo 3’s new flying Skull is pretty sweet, and Halo fans are already figuring out what you can do with it.
Spoilers: it’s a lot.
So Halo 3 is out on PC now thanks to the Master Chief Collection. Considered perhaps the best game in the franchise, it’s been remastered for modern hardware that far exceeds the original Xbox 360 for which it was intended.
Besides looking great, Halo 3 adds several new features. One of them is a brand new Skull that lets you fly.
It’s called the Acrophobia Skull (acrophobia being the extreme fear of heights) and it’s basically like Minecraft’s creator mode. It’s not like a jetpack or rocket boots–the Acrophobia Skull lets you go anywhere. In fact, it lets you go so fast that you can easily splatter yourself against a wall if you’re not careful.
Getting the Acrophobia Skull is relatively easy. Just kill 343 flying enemies, including Drones, Banshees, Sentinels, and Phantoms. Once activated, just hold down the jump key to fly faster than a human being should be able to be unassisted, genetically and cybernetically enhanced or not.
We got our first look at the Acrophobia Skull in action in a developer update a few weeks ago, but fans are now getting their hands on this Skull and having a blast. Here’s one guy just flying around booting grunts out of Banshees like it’s nothing.
Other players are short-circuiting cutscenes by performing impossible maneuvers and killing enemies that shouldn’t even be touchable.
YouTuber Generalkidd showcases what you can do with the Acrophobia Skull during the Warthog Run scene. Note that Generalkidd doesn’t actually have a Warthog and skips most of the scripted explosions, making this a far faster if far less dramatic section of Halo 3.
Halo 3 is out now on Steam and the Microsoft Store.
