Rapid progress on the Halo: The Master Chief Collection PC Port continues at 343 Industries, with the team recently releasing Halo 2 in mid-May. Now the team’s attention has turned to Halo 3. In 343’s latest update for the Halo community, community support Postums provided a report on the status of Halo 3 and what’s coming next. As probably isn’t surprising to PC Halo fans anymore, things appear to be progressing faster than may be expected.

Postums starts by acknowledging that Halo 3 is a huge game and might be the most anticipated game in the entire collection. Halo 3 introduced Theater and Forge modes, as well as popular Halo game types like Grifball and Infection. While it may seem like Postums was hinting Halo 3 may take some time to get ready for PC, the opposite is true. Postums confirms that Halo 3 public flighting is “on the horizon.”

He didn’t leave it there, however. Testing for Halo 3 is confirmed to start in the first half of June. It won’t include access to the full Halo 3 release, however, as Postums says, there’s a lot of game in Halo 3 and it’ll be easier to test it in slices. The first slice will be made available to Halo Insiders on PC, so those interested in playing should go register and make sure their profile is updated as soon as possible.

The June Halo 3 test flight will have a fairly limited scope. The goals of the flight, according to the update, are testing 343’s ability to launch the big game at all so much as to test the game itself. It’ll also be testing changes to the game, like 343’s update to its Challenges system that will also be employed for Halo 3.

As for exactly what content will be available in the first Halo 3 flight, 343 has provided a list. For single-player, the missions Sierra 117, The Storm, The Ark, The Covenant, and Halo will be available. A diverse range of Social Games, Competitive, and Halo 3 Multiplayer modes will be available. Some options are 4v4 Team Hardcore and Team Slayer, as well as 2v2 Team Doubles, as well as 8-player FFA, 12-player Infection, and 8v8. 343 also confirmed Forge and Theater for this flight.

While the flight certainly seems substantial, that just goes to show how much Halo 3 content there really is. It’s just enough for 343 to really put Halo 3 through all of the testing needed to prepare for launch. Clearly, 343 is aiming for getting Halo 3 out fully on PC as soon as possible.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available on PC and Xbox One.
