Ubisoft will not directly address the sexual harassment allegations and employee resignations/terminations in today’s Ubisoft Forward event.
The company rang a number of changes, with various top executives having stepped down from the posts in recent times but, in a Twitter post on Sunday announced the issue would not be addressed in the soon-to-air presentation.
Ubisoft Forward was pre-recorded, per the company’s statement. They have promised further updates on the situation at a later date.
Chief creative officer Serge Hascoet and Canadian studios director Yannis Mallat only resigned this weekend. CEO Yves Guillemot said the show will highlight structural changes that we’re made about a week prior to its airing.
The video game development and publishing company has had other top-level employees and former employees accused of sexual harassment and sexual assault over the span of the last few weeks, including former vice president of editorial Maxime Beland, who had only just returned to the fray after working for Epic Games.
The company has also possibly terminated Watch Dogs brand marketer Andrien Gbinigie following allegations of sexual assault but it has yet to deliver confirmation on the reports. Gbinigie offered a response to the accusation in a Medium post, which has since been deleted, and hasn’t spoken publicly on the issue since then.
The stance, as it pertains to Ubisoft Forward, is completely understandable given that the show won’t be live. But fans will be expecting plenty of transparency moving forward.
