Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players have been kept fairly busy lately. In addition to the Hogwarts Rocks limited time event which adds several punk-themed pieces of attire, there’s also the ongoing Animagus event which allows players to morph into various animal forms. But if that isn’t enough, it seems that developer Jam City is preparing to kick off yet another event for players to take part in.
According to datamined information (via the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery fan Discord), the game is about to get an 80s-themed event. As has been the case with previous, in-game events, players will have to collect crests from reaching full stars in a lesson.
At 15 Crests, players will receive 500 gold, 25 Crests rewards 5 Gems, 40 Crests rewards 1500 gold, and 60 Crests rewards players with an 80s hairstyle. The big prize is at 80 Crests, though, where players will unlock an 80s-themed workout outfit. It’s unclear exactly when the event will take place, but if the data is mineable, so to speak, it suggests that a launch is right around the corner.
As news of the datamined event began to circulate in the community, the reaction seems mixed. On the one hand, fans are glad that Jam City is releasing so much content. According to other recently datamined info (also leaked by the HPHM Discord), the developer is also preparing to release Year 5 content. At least six chapters of Year 5 have been created so far, meaning that between the new narrative content and this 80s event, players will be entertained for a while yet.
Others, though, are disappointed with the content on offer. While Hogwarts Rocks and the Too Cool For School events offered up genuinely cool cosmetics, not everyone is so into the 80s style of big hair, neon colors and legwarmers. And even though the game is technically set in the 1980s, some players would like some cosmetics a little closer to the characters in the Harry Potter movies which are set in the 90s.
Although some players may be disappointed with an 80s event, it’s worth noting that this is unlikely to be the only limited-time event that Jam City is working on. Additional datamined info hints at even more events (and unlockables) that are on the way too. Again, the timeframe for these events is unclear but it means that players will have plenty of reasons to keep adventuring in Hogwarts.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is available on Android and iOS devices.
