Last week, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery introduced the concept of notebooks, which are a new currency that can be used to purchase magical pets as well as new pet skins (or “looks” as Jam City calls them). Unfortunately for fans who want to purchase magical pets or buy some of the new looks for their pets, notebooks aren’t exactly easy to come by in the mobile game, and at the time of this writing, they are completely unavailable. However, we now have a better idea of how exactly players will collect notebooks.
Previously, Jam City made notebooks available in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery through the game’s House Pride event, with players earning some notebooks after hitting certain milestones. Granted, it was impossible for them to earn enough notebooks to purchase any of the magical pets, but they would still earn notebooks nevertheless. Now that the House Pride event has ended, there is text in the game that confirms notebooks will be available in future events as well as available for purchase.
So, to get notebooks in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, players will have to participate in events or purchase them through microtransactions. It’s unclear how much notebooks will cost once the ability to purchase them has been added to the game, or if the different kinds of notebooks will be priced differently, but more information on that front should become available once notebook monetization actually goes live.
In the meantime, there doesn’t appear to be any way to earn notebooks in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery at the time of this writing. However, Jam City rarely lets a week go by without launching a new in-game event, so chances are fans will have a chance to start collecting more notebooks sooner rather than later.
Some may be wondering why Jam City would make it so difficult to earn notebooks, and therefore virtually impossible to adopt the new magical pets. Well, pets give free energy to players periodically throughout the day, which could discourage some from purchasing energy through microtransactions. Alternatively, it’s possible Jam City is just trying to come up with ways for in-game events to be more rewarding and convince more players to actually participate in them.
Regardless, interested Hogwarts Mystery fans should keep an eye out for when notebooks become available again.
