It’s no secret that the halls of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are occupied by more than just students, house elves, and professors. The castle is also haunted by a number of ghosts, including famous spirits like Moaning Myrtle, Nearly Headless Nick, and of course, Peeves the Poltergeist. In Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, fans of the franchise are introduced to yet another ghost haunting Hogwarts, and his name is Duncan Ashe. Please note that this article will have spoilers.
First appearing in Year 5 Chapter 6 of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, Duncan Ashe was a Slytherin student who befriended the player character’s brother Jacob while he was at the school. Unfortunately, Duncan Ashe died while attempting to brew a particularly dangerous potion as part of the effort to access another Cursed Vault, and has blamed Jacob for his death ever since.
Players interact with Duncan Ashe in Hogwarts Mystery while looking for the Marauder’s Map, a magical map that shows the location and names of everyone in Hogwarts. Ashe is hostile toward the player character due to his dislike of Jacob, and reveals that the mysterious R was actively working with the two of them to find all of the Cursed Vaults at Hogwarts.
By the end of Year 5 Chapter 7, players get all of the information they can from Duncan Ashe, and then they are pointed to Knockturn Alley. Knockturn Alley, for the uninitiated, is adjacent to Diagon Alley and is known for its dark magic and shady goings-on. Since it seems like players will be making a trip to Knockturn Alley with next week’s update, it could mean that they will uncover even more clues about Jacob, the Cursed Vaults, and perhaps even Duncan Ashe as well.
When fans are able to visit Knockturn Alley, it will presumably come as a package deal with Diagon Alley, which will likely have a brand new free energy reserve as well as new sights to see. Here’s hoping Diagon Alley and Knockturn Alley are both added to the game with this coming Thursday’s update.
