Save the date: May 15th is when the full game of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Megamix is available for purchase on the Nintendo store for the Switch. Until then, try the game out before its debut downloading the demo. There is so much to look forward to with this rhythm game.
The full version will have over 100 songs to choose form. Players will also be able to create playlists of their favorite songs. It will have lots of customization features, over 300 costumes to choose from and a custom clothing editing option. You can expect to see fans create spectacular works of art with this when it becomes available, just like they have done with the similar feature in Animal Crossing. In the demo version of Project DIVA, you can pick from 3 outfits choices: Hatsune Miku Classic, Vintage Dress, ARIFURE Miku.
The demo currently available allows users to try out gameplay with two songs: “Artifueta Sekai Seifuku” and “Romeo and Cinderella”. If you have trouble choosing, you can set it to random. The gameplay is similar to Dance Dance Revolution and other popular dance games. Grey silhouettes that correspond to buttons on the Switch Joy-cons appear on the screen, and when the color version of the button icon matches with the silhouette you have to press that button to the beat.
While the gameplay sounds simple and familiar, there are a lot of small variations that really give this game an added layer of difficulty. For one, the button icons can come from any side of the screen so there is a lot more players have to pay attention to. The silhouettes also don’t have a set spot to spawn; they can appear anywhere on the screen. Another way the difficulty was boosted from your typical rhythm dance game with 4-6 buttons, is that there are 10 different buttons you could have to press: the A, B, X, and Y, buttons on the left controller, the up, down, left, and right buttons on the right controller, and the Left and Right top buttons on top of either Joy-con.
The game features an Arcade Mode, where the only controls are pressing the correct buttons to the time of the music, or for move movement you can switch it into Mix Mode. In Mix Mode, not only do you have to push the buttons at the right time, but you have to tilt the Joy-con controller at the correct angle to move the icons around the screen.
