Rather than making its entire DC movie library available at one time, HBO Max is rotating movies in and out without explaining why.
The world of TV and movie streaming has suddenly become pretty crowded in 2020. One year ago, Netflix was riding high with its competitors not even really nipping at its heels — let alone posing a real threat to its crown. Fast forward to today, and Disney+ and HBO Max have entered the fray with plenty of heavy-hitting content.
Not only does Disney have almost a century’s worth of content at its disposal, but it is also flaunting every Star Wars movie, the whole of the MCU (minus Spidey), and a bunch of appealing content it recently acquired from Fox. Making all of that content available from day one paid off as 10 million people signed up right away.
It seemed as if HBO Max was going to do something similar. Along with its own appealing content, including Game of Thrones and Westworld, it also boasts the DC movie library. However, fans of the DCEU were disappointed to discover that not every movie from the universe is currently on HBO Max. Even worse, most of them will be removed on July 1, so subscribers need to enjoy them now while they still can.
Comic Book confirmed this week that once July rolls around, Justice League, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad, Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Catwoman, Jonah Hex, and The Losers will all leave HBO Max. The wording here is very important, though. Apparently, these titles will be pulled from rotation, so it’s assumed they will return sometime in the future.
A spokesperson from HBO Max has revealed that different titles from its collection of DC movies will rotate on and off the platform each month. A new batch will replace the removed titles in July, and then the same will happen in August. Newer DCEU movies such as Shazam!, Joker, and Aquaman, along with Green Lantern and Supergirl, will not be removed from the streaming service at the end of the month.
