There is quite a bit going on this week in Hearthstone. This week’s Tavern Brawl is well worth the time to play as it is tied to the current event and legendary questline. The format is The Rumbledome, where each player wields weapons to crush their opponent. In all honesty, this is one of the most RNG, high-roll dependant brawls – but it is still great fun. For winning the Brawl once, players will receive their standard Classic Card Pack, while playing though a total of four games will award an additional pack from Ashes of Outland, Year of the Dragon, and Descent of Dragons!
In ranked play, a new season is upon us with the start of July, giving players a chance to earn a new delicious card back that looks all too much like a Pop-Tart. For those who are looking to climb as high as possible in ranked play in the current meta, this might be the final month to do so. Like clockwork, Blizzard should be announcing the next expansion any day now; we should be seeing a release in the next little while since Ashes of Outland was announced in mid-March.
Interestingly (or sadly, depending on one’s perspective), the new Demon Hunter still remains the most dominant class in the game. After so many balance patches to try and reign in the overpowered toolkit of the new class, its overall win rate has dropped a few percentage points, according to HSreplay.net. Regardless, it has maintained its top position. Both the Hunter and Warrior class have stepped up to offer meaningful competition, but remain slightly less powerful as classes. Unfortunately, the Warlock and Shaman classes both remain at the bottom of the list with abysmal win rates.
In esports, Team Liquid is proud to announce that Sjow has re-signed with the organization. Fans of Sjow will remember him from his days as a competitive StarCraft player and one of the top European players in StarCraft 2. Now, he primarily splits his time streaming Hearthstone Battlegrounds and Magic: The Gathering Arena.
There is also still quite a bit to watch in esports despite the ongoing pandemic. Qualifiers for the Hearthstone Masters Tour Online: Montreal remain ongoing, and the schedule can be found here.
Most events will be taking place in mid-to-late July, such as the Hearthstone Collegiate Championship. Initial competition was initially put on indefinite hold and later held online in June, and now the dual eliminations stage will take place on July 11-12, with the grand finals taking place July 18.
