Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 has lasted much longer than expected, with Epic Games repeatedly delaying the end of the season. Fans of the battle royale have been eagerly anticipating the start of Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3, and now the wait is finally coming to an end. Later today, the Fortnite Doomsday event will kick off, bringing Season 2 to a close and ushering in the start of Chapter 2 Season 3 in the battle royale.
The Fortnite Doomsday event will start today at 2pm ET, and Epic Games recommends that anyone interested in seeing what the event has in store tune in at least 30 minutes in advance. “Space is limited,” as it were, and so some Fortnite players that try to tune in at the last minute may miss out. Of course, countless streamers will be live-streaming the Fortnite Doomsday event, and it will also be uploaded on YouTube not long after it takes place, so anyone that misses it as it happens can still watch it afterwards.
As for what Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 3 will entail, that remains to be seen. There are many rumors and leaks about what exactly is going to happen, with one of the most popular theories being that the Fortnite map is going to get flooded. This would dramatically change the battle royale game and it is hard to say exactly how fans would react to such a change, so some are understandably worried about that possibility.
Lending credibility to this theory are the leaks surrounding Fortnite and Aquaman. Similarly to how Chapter 2 Season 2 featured Deadpool, leaks have suggested that this new season of Fortnite will have Aquaman in a starring role. This has yet to be confirmed by Epic Games, so fans should keep their expectations in check, but they shouldn’t have to wait too much longer after the event ends to find out for sure.
There is a lot riding on this Fortnite event and Chapter 2 Season 3 in general. Popular Fortnite streamers like Ninja have recently spoken out against the game, and it’s clear that it needs a serious refresh to keep fans engaged, especially in the face of stiff competition from the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone and other BRs. Whether or not Epic Games accomplishes that with the new Fortnite season remains to be seen.
Fortnite is out now for iOS, Android, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
