As expected, and maybe feared by some players, Epic Games has confirmed Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 will be extended.

In 2019, Fortnite as we once knew it disappeared into a black hole. Soon after, a new island emerged. Not completely different from the one it had replaced, but different enough to generate some deserved buzz in the Fortnite community. However, what immediately followed did more bad than good to the battle royale behemoth.

Chapter 2 Season 1, the season that will forever be known as the longest season in Fortnite history. Well, providing another season doesn’t end up beating that record. Judging by an announcement from Epic Games this week, that record might be broken sooner than we thought. It has revealed that Chapter 2 Season 2 has been extended by more than a month. It’s now scheduled to end on June 4, 2020.

This news isn’t necessarily bad. It’s only bad if Season 2 follows in more of Season 1’s footsteps. Other than a somewhat lackluster festive event, nothing much happened during Season 1’s extension. The stall was simply so Epic could tweak things in preparation for Season 2 and judging by the lack of major updates and events, it wasn’t prepared for any such eventuality.

Considering the world is in the middle of a global pandemic and projects are getting delayed left and right, this latest delay was somewhat expected. Epic has also promised, as part of the same statement, that this month-long delay will be filled with more updates and events. It also revealed that it has a couple of secrets up its sleeve between now and June 4, so plenty for players to get excited about.

Leaks would also suggest that the first major event since the black hole disappearance is coming. A number of items have been discovered in Fortnite’s code that point towards some sort of Doomsday event. Some players have even theorized that the Doomsday Door or Doomsday Hatches might eventually lead players back to island number one. That would certainly keep people entertained for this upcoming extension.
