Summer Game Fest went live this morning, featuring an interview with game designer and director Hideo Kojima regarding Death Stranding’s port to PC.

Interviewer Geoff Keighley brought up the potential parallels between the world of Death Stranding and our society’s current status, stating that “the themes in [Death Stranding] have a strangely striking parallel to the situation that we’re in right now: self isolation, ill-contact deliveries. All of these themes are things that tie into that general sense of a fractured society that needs to be reconnected.” He then asked the Japanese game director whether or not he sees the direct parallels between society and his recent title.

Kojima answered Keighley, stating that, “with this whole world-wide pandemic, I was never expecting anything of this magnitude… I wasn’t predicting anything at all like this.” He then jokingly shared that, “I’ve been asked ‘are you a profit?’ because in past games as well I’ve kind of had this similar experience. And people ask me about predicting this, if it makes me a profit. But again, I’d like to just say that I am not a profit. Because if I was, I would have created a game that would sell more.” You can watch the full interview with Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa in the video below.

Additionally, Kojima and Shinkawa confirmed that Death Stranding’s PC port would allow for a higher resolution and frame rates on PC, as well as the option for ultra-wide screen resolution of 21x9. This ultra wide screen display grants the player with additional screen space, increasing the player’s perspective and adds a more cinematic feel.

It’s true that Sony was unhappy with Death Stranding’s sales, with the title heavily under performing. The title reportedly sold quite well at first, but sales came to a sudden fault, with roughly 3 million copies gathering dust in warehouses.

Kojima recently teased Death Stranding-related content via Twitter, and many fans are speculating that it perhaps is a hint at a sequel or future DLC to the title. Kojima has not confirmed the meaning behind the tweet yet, however it’s safe to say that players should learn more information after Death Stranding gets ported to PC.

Death Stranding is currently available on PlayStation 4, and releases for PC on July 14, 2020.
