The third mission in Hitman 3 raises the stakes for Agent 47. The mission takes away some of the features players came to expect from the trilogy which makes Apex Predator one of the most interesting missions available in the game. However, the lack of explicit direction can make the level daunting for those new to the franchise.
Sometimes having a general idea of what to expect going in can help you decide what you truly want to explore in your playthrough. In Berlin, there are countless opportunities for memorable interactions, intricate eliminations, and hidden moments to keep an eye out for.
10 Explore, Explore, And Explore Some More
Hitman 3 is known for beautiful and intricately designed maps, but Apex Predator turns Berlin into a completely open-world sandbox. If you’re ready to let Agent 47 explore his inner adventurer, search through Berlin for the stories, items, and targets you’ll need to complete your mission.
There are no mission stories to follow, no handlers to guide you one way or another, and no targets immediately obvious with the Instinct ability. You’re completely on your own, so discovering the important parts of the level is up to you.
9 Look For People Talking Into Earpieces
To complete the mission, Agent 47 must eliminate five of the eleven agents out to eliminate him. The agents are using Agent 47’s tactics against him – disguising themselves as workers inside the nightclub and other areas nearby. This is one of the added challenges in an already difficult mission in Hitman 3. A good first step to take is to find characters with white dots over their heads.
The white dots indicate that a character will be suspicious of you if you’re in their line of sight. While this isn’t a perfect method of identifying targets, following them can reveal the characters talking into a concealed earpiece. Once you catch one of them doing this, the target will be identified and you will be able to follow them with the Instinct ability.
8 Finding The Secret Mission Exit
Special mission exits are available to those who complete certain tasks in the level and the Berlin level is no different. Except this one is a little jokier and less serious than a lot of the other methods.
Apex Predator has a lot of graffiti dotted around the environment, but if you have a keen eye, you can find an X-Files easter egg spraypainted on a wall. It includes a UFO, a phone with a cord ring, and the numbers 1-9-9-3. This is one of many easter eggs in Apex Predator, but it is the only one with a full animation associated with it.
7 There’s a Hippo In Berlin
It’s clear that developers had a blast designing the Apex Predator level because why else would they have put an interactable hippopotamus into the game? It’s a comparatively goofy tone shift for a serious mission, but sometimes players just need a breather after narrowly escaping detection for the fifth time.
If you locate a golden idol hidden in a safe and bring it to a conspicuous armchair at the edge of a muddy pond, a hippo will emerge from the depths with some cryptic messages to share. Agent 47 has lived a strange life so far, so maybe talking to a hippopotamus isn’t all that unbelievable. It makes no sense, but does it really matter?
6 Many Targets Means Many Elimination Methods
Agent 47 is a master of elimination – as fans of the series have surely learned by now. Apex Predator adds to the list of outrageous kills available to players if they’re careful in their planning. Creating gas leaks, sabotaging electronics with water, and poisoning drinks and air vents are available at every level, but Berlin has some special opportunities.
Specifically, you can take out one of the agents with some tampering at a construction site. If you time it all right, you can drop a load of concrete onto one of the agents when they pass underneath. It’s a brief time window, but the spectacle is worth the planning.
5 There Are Options If Stealth Isn’t Your Thing
While the Hitman franchise does emphasize sneaking around, sometimes players just want to take out a weapon and dive into the chaos head first. Lucky for you: Agent 47 is a master of weaponry.
Challenges like There Was A Fire Fight offer the rare opportunity to wipe out a swath of targets in one shot (or a couple of shots with a shotgun specifically) and get rewarded for it. Or, if you’re like the player who attempted to blow up the entire population of Sapienza, you can get creative with it. Agent 47 is diverse like that.
4 Agent 47 Has Some Competition
A familiar goose has also invaded Berlin! This is a fun nod to another agent of chaos in video games: the Goose from Untitled Goose Game. You can find graffiti of the devious avian on a roadblock somewhere in Berlin with a warning to keep out of the area.
While this easter egg has no influence on the mission at hand, it serves as a reminder that causing mischief doesn’t always have to be so serious. Though, it’s fun to imagine the Goose going head-to-head with Agent 47 in a game of mischief and mayhem in the streets of Berlin.
3 Another Way In
Agent 47 tends to stick to the shadows to make the best use of his numerous abilities. And stealth is one of the most popular methods of infiltrating restricted areas, but sometimes you just want to walk through the front door.
There’s a man outside of the nightclub talking about his allergy pills. If you talk to the man, he’ll offer to get you into the club if you can find his medication. They are only a few feet away in a bicycle basket. It’s a little mundane in comparison to some of the other things you can do in the level, but an easy way in is an easy way in, right?
2 There Will Be Runaway Agents
While the mission requires five kills to successfully complete it, the other six are still fair game. After the fifth agent is eliminated, the remaining agents will flee from their posts. They will not show up with the Instinct ability.
But if you plan your executions right, you can still get the remaining agents. It requires precise timing and exceptional marksmanship, but it provides a comfortable challenge for the completionists out there. Besides, Agent 47 was designed for just this kind of thing, right?
1 Look For Cameras
One of the easiest ways to have your cover blown is to get caught on surveillance systems and Berlin has lots of them. Security is heightened in the more restricted areas of the map, so when planning your ways in and out of places of interest, be sure to take a walk around the perimeter.
Shooting the cameras out is the easiest way to avoid detection. If you do find yourself caught on camera, there will be a security office somewhere nearby where you can erase the footage and cover your tracks.
