If you’re a fan of bald assassins brutally murdering awful people while wearing ridiculous disguises, then you must be looking forward to the next installment of the Hitman franchise (you also have very specific interests.) IO Interactive has been steadily working on Hitman 3, which is shaping up to be the most violent and gorgeous adventure of Agent 47’s cutthroat career.

Today a new trailer was released by the developers that shows off the improvements made to the game’s engine along with a brand new level.

This video is the debut of the Chongqing level, which is a great showcase for all the graphical upgrades that have been made to IO Interactive’s Glacier engine. The level looks impressive with plenty of neon signs and new lighting effects. The trailer makes a big show of the game’s new water effects, which include ripples in puddles and raindrops splattering upon Agent 47’s shiny dome. It looks very pretty.

The team at IO has also been working on improving the artificial intelligence of the game’s NPCs. In Hitman 3 there can apparently be up to 300 separate AI’s running at one time. That means there should be a fair amount of targets for 47 to knock out in order to steal their clothes.

Since this is intended to be a next-gen title, it will support 4K resolutions and HDR. In a rather interesting note, the end of the video mentions that these game engine upgrades will also be added to both the first Hitman and Hitman 2. Which makes sense since you’ll be able to port over levels and progress from those games to Hitman 3.

The trailer then concludes the way all game trailers do these days: With a look at the pre-order bonuses! These include a set of exclusive suits called the Trinity Pack along with other cosmetics and items. There’s also a director’s commentary, digital book, soundtrack, and some deluxe escalations (which are essentially fancy bonus missions.)

Hitman 3 is currently scheduled to be released on January 20, 2021, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC  - as a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store - and will even be coming to the Nintendo Switch thanks to cloud computing. So no matter where you go, there will be some way to find Agent 47.
