Hitman 3 released to critical acclaim and fan delight all over the world on January 20th, 2021. The maps have inspired wallpapers, the gameplay has been lauded as intelligent and satisfying, and the audio is some of the best gamers will have ever heard. With headphones on, it’s hard to argue that this isn’t one of the most immersive games of all time.

But nothing is perfect and there are always areas where games can improve. Even fans of the game will find themselves wishing for improvements at certain moments or wishing that things would have evolved more. We’ll be eagerly watching to see how many of the fixes the community has requested will be implemented over time.

10 Improve Server Capacity

Some players out there have figured out how to beat the first mission in under twenty seconds. But other players can’t even log in for three seconds just to get started playing the missions.

If you were part of the many who were unable to play the game on launch day, you were not alone. If you still can’t play, you’re still not alone. It appears that IO Interactive significantly underestimated how popular the game would be as it crushed the franchise’s record for digital sales already.

9 Allow Offline Play

The entire reason the servers are overloaded for Hitman 3 is because players are required to go online. IO Interactive really shot themselves in the foot then when their servers were needed to fix bugs and transfer progress.

All this can easily be avoided by allowing people who have confirmed their purchases to play offline. There is no reason a single-player game like this should require a constant connection to the internet in order to function.

8 Smoother Data Transfer

Go ahead and have some pointers on how to integrate progress from Hitman 2 into Hitman 3. But it’s not at all intuitive and should have been thought out well before the trilogy would be an Epic Games Store exclusive.

IO Interactive had announced that progress could be carried over from other stores, but they made no mention of how difficult it would be. Many players are still waiting to play while their transfers are being reviewed.

7 Update Properly

Players of expanded editions noticed that some of the updates weren’t installing correctly. Some are missing individual maps from the DLC and bonus content packs while others watch the game stuck on the loading screen for forever.

Updates were not meant to be this clunky. Most day one patches are immediately installed and players never notice they are there. Updating contents and patches alike have been an unnecessary slog for some reason.

6 Figure Out The Crashes

Though Hitman 3 will be awesome for Stadia content creators and speedrunners, if the game crashes in the middle of doing something cool, then gamers will consider the game a liability for their audiences.

Humorously, one common crash location has been after Agent 47 takes down the servers inside of the game. Somebody at IO Interactive might have jinxed their own game. But it’s time to figure out what’s going on and un-jinx it already.

5 Compact File Sizes

The critical game reviews for Hitman 3 are overwhelmingly positive and that’s for a very good reason. But it likely won’t score many points for gamers that have a moderately-sized library and have limited space on their hard drives.

Hitman 3 alone recommends 80 GBs for space. Fans of the series who also want the first two games will be looking at even more space needed. This is a size that dwarfs the entire Halo series. Much like the Master Chief Collection, which reduced its size gradually over time, Hitman 3 should follow suit with its entire trilogy.

4 Let 47 Run

Players always see Agent 47 playing the role of a calm and cool cat. Even in the bloody trailer, he’s collected, poised, and measured. That’s all well and good, but he’s also terribly slow for somebody in his shape.

There is a run button in the game, but it’s a mild jog at best. When jobs go south, players would greatly appreciate the ability to run away. Even when jobs are going right, speedrunners would appreciate a bit of urgency in the pace.

3 Add Screaming

This has been an issue in Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 and maybe fans shouldn’t be surprised that it persists in Hitman 3. While it might be expected, it’s been an immersion-breaking mechanic since the beginning and should be resolved.

Characters immediately go into a ragdoll death motion as soon as they are pushed to their deaths and they are totally silent. Look, it’s handy for quiet kills, but it’s not realistic and some of these ne’er-do-wells deserve to feel a bit of fear as they plummet to the earth.

2 Improve The AI

This should not be read as “Make the AI harder.” In more difficult settings, the AI is plenty paranoid and sometimes too paranoid. There are some great scripts for many of the NPCs in this game, but that’s not across the board.

Reactions to finding bodies, places they run to for safety, actions they take when violence becomes direct, and the like have always been a source of humor. Maybe it’s time to give them a healthy dose of realism.

1 Improve Controls On VR

VR is an incredible idea for the Hitman series and players were rightfully ecstatic when the announcement came that Hitman 3 would support VR. Let’s just say that “support” might have been too strong of a word.

The controls are badly broken and laggy. They require a regular controller to work and, even then, shooting is spastic and impossible to aim with. Slamming an object down on a character’s head often inexplicably looks like a love tap regardless of how fast players execute the motion.
