Hob hops to freedom on the Epic Games Store as a free game. You like free, right?
When you think of Runic Games, most of us think of Torchlight and Torchlight 2. But there was another game that came right before Runic closed up shop in 2017 called Hob, an action-adventure puzzle-platformer where you play as a mysterious hooded figure in a bizarre gearpunk world. And now you can play it completely free on the Epic Games Store.
“Hob is a vibrant, suspenseful action-adventure game set on a stunning and brutal world in disarray,” reads the game on Epic. “As players delve into the mysteries around them, they discover a planet in peril. Can it be mended, or will the world fall further into chaos?”
Hob tells a story completely free of narrative. This means not a word is spoken either by the player character or any of the magic robots they meet. You solve puzzles, grind gears, and smash baddies on a mostly silent journey to repairing a ruined world.
While Hob has decent reviews on Metacritic and phenomenal reviews on Steam, sales didn’t quite meet expectations which led to Runic shutting down shortly after the game’s release. Don’t let Runic’s demise fool you into thinking that Hob is anything but an amazing adventure. Anyone who’s a fan of the puzzle-platformer genre will love Hob, and especially love the fact that you can now own it for free on PC.
