Guerrilla Games revealed some majestic machines on its Twitter yesterday from the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West. The developer presented the new Sunwing machines in a few stunning PS5 screenshots for fans to gawk over.

As Guerrilla Games has already expressed its intent to include more machines in the next Horizon chapter, it came as no surprise when the company posted “Meet the Machines.” The devs introduced fans to their latest creation, the Sunwings, described as speedy and flexible machines that use their sun-absorbing wings to harness energy. The prehistoric robo-birds spend their days cruising above the dense jungle when the sun is at its highest in order to allow plenty of light to soak into their wings.

Followers of the new game were keen to give praise to the game’s artwork and questioned whether main character Aloy would be able to ride the airborne creations much to the players delight. The devs were also applauded for their ingenuity in creating a machine that operates off of natural resources, adding to the metropolis escapism that the Horizon series promotes. The screenshots showcased the elaborate details included in the landscapes of post-apocalyptic California that caught the eye of many fans who had already made the new images their desktop wallpaper.

Guerrilla has also debuted two other machines in its Meet the Machine series, the grand forest hogs The Bristlebacks and the Shellsnappers who resemble tortoises that disguise their backs with pockets of land. It is expected that the company will continue to release new machines and screenshots as the year goes on while the game progresses in its development phase.

Just like Horizon Zero Dawn, Forbidden West is set in an open-world and played in third-person where the player controls machine hunter, Aloy. The game’s predecessor introduced two of its own winged machines, Stormbirds that exhibited skillful flying and performed lethal Ariel attacks alongside the Glinthawks that congregated in groups but were less harmful. Forbidden West’s Sunwings appear similar in scale and color to the Glinthawks but appear more graceful than the latter’s muscular build. Horizon is widely known for its breathtaking scenery that seems to carry into actual gameplay outwith the cinematic trailers.

As Horizon Zero Dawn allowed players to overpower and mount various flying machines, fans are expecting to be able to do the same with the Sunwings that will once again provide some thrilling gameplay.
