Recently, Infinity Ward revealed a new type of contract for Call of Duty: Warzone players to find on the battle royale map. The new “Most Wanted” contracts were pitched as a sort of backwards version of the bounty contracts that already existed in the game, with players making themselves a target for every enemy. On paper, the Call of Duty: Warzone Most Wanted contracts sounded like they could add a great deal of fun intensity to the game, but in practice, they failed to live up to expectations.
In fact, community backlash for the Call of Duty: Warzone Most Wanted contracts was so intense that they were removed from the game mere days after their debut, though Infinity Ward didn’t provide a specific explanation as to why. There are numerous reasons why the Call of Duty: Warzone Most Wanted contracts were not well-received by the community, though, and those reasons combined with a game-breaking bug that plagued the Most Wanted contracts could have led to the decision to remove them entirely.
However, there are some changes that Infinity Ward could make to Warzone’s Most Wanted contracts to make them a much more appealing prospect should the studio ever decide to bring them back. Here is how Infinity Ward can fix the Call of Duty: Warzone Most Wanted contracts in the future.
Risk vs. Reward
One of the main reasons why Call of Duty: Warzone players weren’t thrilled about Most Wanted contracts was that they didn’t provide enough incentive to take on such a significant risk. Part of the problem was that Most Wanted contracts lasted a whopping five minutes, meaning players had to stay alive for a significant amount of time with literally every enemy player on the map knowing their exact location. This constitutes a significant risk in Call of Duty: Warzone as it would any other battle royale, and puts players at a distinct disadvantage.
The reward players got for completing a Most Wanted contract was some Warzone cash along with an automatic re-deploy for all of their dead teammates. On paper this sounds like a big deal, but in reality, it would likely be easier for players to simply collect the cash needed to revive their teammates from a shop instead, which would definitely be doable within those five minutes.
So one of the main ways that Infinity Ward could drastically improve Call of Duty: Warzone Most Wanted contracts would be to better balance the risks versus the rewards. This could be accomplished by simply making it so players don’t have to survive quite as long after picking up a Most Wanted contract.
Fix the Bug
Another way Infinity Ward could make Call of Duty: Warzone Most Wanted contracts more appealing would be by fixing the game-breaking bug associated with them. For the uninitiated, there was a game-breaking bug in Call of Duty: Warzone that would make players’ weapons disappear if they happened to be reviving a teammate while the Most Wanted contract was completing. Knowing that there is a risk of a bug that could potentially cost them the match likely made many players even less likely to bother with the Most Wanted contracts.
Don’t Replace Regular Bounties
A huge reason why Call of Duty: Warzone fans went from being excited about Most Wanted contracts to loathing them was that they replaced regular bounties in the game. With the exception of Solos Mode, Infinity Ward decided to remove the popular regular bounty contracts from the game entirely and replace them all with Most Wanted contracts. Needless to say, this was not a popular decision on the part of Infinity Ward, drawing widespread criticism from fans in addition to professional gamers and streamers.
It’s unclear why Infinity Ward decided to replace regular bounties in Call of Duty: Warzone with the Most Wanted contracts instead of just adding the Most Wanted contracts as a new type of contract that players could get along with the existing ones. However, this isn’t the first time that Infinity Ward has added something to Call of Duty: Warzone or Modern Warfare and replaced something popular in the process.
As some may recall, Infinity Ward once replaced the popular 2v2 Gunfight mode with the Gunfight OSP variant. It also once got rid of the Shoot House 24/7 playlist in favor of a Crash 24/7 playlist. The studio was widely criticized in both instances, eventually bringing back the popular modes after significant fan outcry.
There are clearly some ways that Call of Duty: Warzone could fix its Most Wanted contracts, but it remains to be seen if Infinity Ward will bother adding them back to the game or not. It’s possible that the studio will focus on creating brand new contracts instead, especially since the Most Wanted contracts now have a tainted reputation. Call of Duty: Warzone fans will just need to stay tuned to find out for sure.
Call of Duty: Warzone is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
