For a long time, Destiny 2 has built a thriving player base off of its weekly events and exclusive loot. However, the unrelenting cycle of new events and items has started to tire dedicated fans. After several complaints about grinding in-game, Bungie has a solution ready. The developer has announced that it would be changing the bounties for players.

Previously, players had complained about FOMO, or fear of missing out. In Year 3, the game had several events with limited-edition gear that were only available for a week. This forced players to continually grind to get the loot before it disappeared. As Destiny 2 continues its Guardian Games event, Bungie has released a news post that outlines its approach to rewards going forward.

In the Destiny 2 news post, Bungie talked about massive changes to its seasonal model. The developer’s aim is to make a more “interconnected” storyline of Year 4’s seasons. With Season 12, Destiny 2’s seasonal activities will still be available after the season’s end, which will allow players to enter future seasons without having to worry about missing previous events. This change will also allow players to follow the overarching narrative from the beginning.

This tactic addresses a problem with Year 3’s more inaccessible story. To encourage fans to go back through the older seasons, Bungie will allow players to earn Seasonal rewards for one year. Because of this decision, the developer is also bringing back some weapons from seasons 8-10, and an engram from Season 11.

Bungie’s new approach seems like a smart decision. Keeping the rewards and older events for players opens up a lot of opportunities for fans. Players will be able to earn seasonal rewards without continually grinding for the loot they want. The developer also said that this would allow players to play other events if they were tired of one. Hopefully, relaxing the pressure of limited-time missions will also deter Destiny 2 cheaters.

Ultimately, Destiny 2 fans will have a lot to look forward to in the future. After three years, Bungie is clearly dedicated to supporting Destiny 2 by patching bugs and releasing content. Hopefully, the developer’s overhauls should revitalize veteran players and excite potential newcomers.
