The Witcher: Blood Origin might take place 1200 years before the events of season one, but that doesn’t mean Henry Cavill can’t be a part of the limited series.

Earlier this week, Netflix revealed it is working on a prequel series to The Witcher. The six-part limited series will be called The Witcher: Blood Origin and take place 1200 years before the events of season one. Chances are that means no one who appears in Blood Origin will have appeared in the main series, but that won’t definitely be the case.

There are a few ways in which Henry Cavill could appear in Blood Origin. The most obvious way, at least in our minds, would be to have the Superman actor narrate the series in some way. Since the prequel will tell the tale of the very first Witcher, it would make sense that Geralt would be the one to tell the tale of how his kind came to be.

There’s also the possibility that Cavill could appear in the show as a different character, perhaps even the aforementioned original Witcher the show will focus on. There is a potential pitfall with this idea, though. If the original Witcher looks exactly like Geralt, viewers may assume that they and all Witchers are related. That is, of course, not the case as the mutations Witchers go through render them infertile.

The third and final option is if Netflix intertwines Blood Origin with the current series. Since production on Season 2 of The Witcher has been delayed, there’s a very real chance both shows will be shot at the same time. That means Blood Origin could use flash-forwards to show how it and the main series tie together. Or, since they’ll have Cavill there for season two, Netflix could even shoot some unique present-day Witcher shots specifically for use in Blood Origin.

Prequels can be tricky waters to navigate. Although the first season of the regular Witcher series was incredibly popular, word that none of the cast will be in Blood Origin might discourage people from watching. The revelation that Cavill will be a part of the project, even just as a narrator, could make all the difference.
