Although it’s been over 6 years since Grand Theft Auto 5 was originally released, it continues to hold a reputation as one of the greatest games of all times. Even today, the title keeps making record sales and a recent free promotion by Epic Games ensures that even more players own a copy now. But what is it that keeps gamers coming back to Grand Theft Auto 5?
In many ways, GTA 5 broke the tradition of previous entries by having 3 protagonists: Franklin Clinton, Michael De Santa, and Trevor Philips. The plot follows the trio’s attempts to complete missions for multiple groups such as a corrupt government agency while planning a series of heists that will set them for life. Along the way, however, their actions and the truth about one past event will bring them into conflict with multiple enemies as well as each other.
Main Story Length
During GTA 5, players will progress between Franklin, Michael, and Trevor’s different arcs that often intersect with each other . In total, there are 69 missions that will take place during the main story in Los Santos and Blaine County as well as Ludendorf, North Yankton at several points. From start to finish, players should expect to spend around 32 hours going through the plot at a casual pace. In rare cases, speed running through GTA 5 can cut down the time to 21 hours.
Extras
But like other games in the series, GTA 5 isn’t over after reaching the end credits. Once players make their final story choice as Franklin, they can opt to go back and pick the other 2 decisions to change the fate of some characters. Furthermore, depending on how several heist missions were approached, players can replay and choose the other option to see how things would have gone.
On the other hand, there are also many strangers and freaks that can be interacted with such as a paparazzo photographer, some patriotic civilian volunteers, and even Trevor’s mother. Seeing the extra 10 missions and meeting every quirky character will add about 15 hours to the main story for a maximum of 47 hours.
100 Percent Completion
Even after seeing the full story, players will only be done with around 60 percent of GTA 5. From then on, the other 40 percent can be obtained by completing various activities in Los Santos such as purchasing property, doing stunt jumps, and completing random events. Fully finishing everything on the list needed for 100 percent completion will take nearly as long as finishing the main story for a grand total of 79 hours spent in-game.
Once everything is finished, there will be one more bonus mission for Franklin to do that involves hunting a “Sasquatch”. In the end, there’s plenty of replay value in GTA 5 and players can always return to go on rampages in Los Santos or play GTA Online as well.
Grand Theft Auto 5 is available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
