Final Fantasy 14 is an MMORPG with a lot of hairstyle choices in its character creation, though there are limits depending on your chosen race and gender. If you don’t like the default FF14 hairstyles, don’t worry. All hairstyles are not unlocked yet. You’ll still have additional options that you can unlock in the game through various means.
Once obtained, unique hairstyles can be applied to characters using the Aesthetician in an inn or at your home. Even those who don’t like all the current FF14 hairstyles still have hope as more get released in various patches. With that in mind, it’s likely more hairstyles will be available to unlock in the future.
Hairstyles Received From Dungeons, Duties, And Raids
Battle-Ready Bobs and Scanning for Style
Usable by all races.
These two hairstyles are available at the end of The Tower of Paradigm’s Breach, the third alliance raid in the Nier: Automata crossover content for level 80 characters.
The entire alliance can vote for the hair though, so it may take many tries before obtaining one of these hairstyles unlock for yourself.
Early to Rise
Usable by all races except Hrothgar.
This hairstyle is a rare drop from Delubrum Reginae. To unlock Delubrum Reginae, you must complete story quests in the Bozjan Southern Front, which is unlocked at level 80.
However, it’s a dungeon many grind anyway to get their Resistance Weapons fully upgraded. If you aren’t having luck getting this hairstyle to drop from Delubrum Reginae, you can also purchase it from another player at the Market Board.
Samsoian Locks
Usable by all races except Viera and Hrothgar.
Released in patch 3.4, the Samsonian Locks hairstyle can be found and unlocked in the Palace of the Dead. This hairstyle drops from the Bronze-trimmed Sacks that can be earned from the Accursed Hoard at early levels of the Palace.
Wind Caller
Wind Caller is the only hairstyle that can be purchased with Bozjan Clusters. That means you must undertake the Bojzan Southern Front content and collect clusters by defeating enemies in that area.
The hairstyle can be purchased for 150 Bozjan Clusters from the Resistance Quartermaster in the Bozjan Southern Front (X:14.2, Y:29.6).
Form and Function
The Form and Function hairstyle is a rare drop from Pyros Lockboxes, earned from The Forbidden Land, Eureka Pyros. These boxes drop from completing various FATEs in the area, or the hairstyle can be purchased directly from another player on the Market Board, although it usually sells for quite a bit of gil.
Both Ways
Released in patch 5.55, Both Ways gives characters a braid and a side-ponytail in a single hairstyle. The hair is a rare drop from lockboxes on Zadnor. Keep in mind that Zadnor will only be available after completing the main quest in Bozja.
For players who have not completed Bozja, but are dying to get their hands on this hair, it does sell on the Market Board, but is usually expensive due to its rarity.
Gyr Abanian Plait
The Gyr Abanian Plait hairstyle is unique to Heaven-on-High, and can be obtained by discovering pieces of the Accursed Hoard there. Alternatively, you can purchase this hairstyle from another player on the Market Board, but, due to its rarity in Heaven-on-High, it is usually quite expensive.
Hairstyles Received From The Gold Saucer
Adventure
Usable by all races except Viera and Hrothgar.
Released in patch 3.1, these hairstyles appear differently depending on the character’s chosen gender. The male version is a brushed sideways look while the female has a bow and ponytail. Unfortunately, the bow is not dyeable.
This hairstyle can be purchased for 14 MGP from the Modern Aesthetics Saleswoman in the Gold Saucer (X:5.4, Y:6.5).
Ponytails
Usable by all races.
This ponytail-styled hair is another product of the Gold Saucer. However, instead of getting it from the Modern Aesthetics Saleswoman, it’s bought and unlocked at the Prize Claim counter for 8,000 MGP under the “other” options in Prize Exchange III. This NPC is located at (X:5.4, Y:6.5).
Curls
Like the Ponytails hairstyle, Curls can be claimed by the Prize Claim NPC at the Gold Saucer. It’s a little more pricey, costing 9,600 MGP.
This hairstyle is unisex and was released in Patch 3.1.
Lexen-Tails
This hairstyle will be for sale at the Gold Saucer after you complete The City of Lost Angels quest as well as completing The Orbonne Monastery raid. This means anyone lower than level 70 isn’t going to have access to this hairstyle.
Once the requirements are completed, the hairstyle can be purchased for 50,000 MGP from the Gold Saucer Attendant prize claim. Only female characters get the bow while male characters are without one.
Great Lengths
Usable by all races except Hrothgar.
Released in patch 5.0, this hairstyle can be bought from the Gold Saucer Attendant for 30,000 MGP. While the long hair is beautiful, keep in mind that longer hair usually clips into a lot of armor in the game.
Rainmaker
After a long period of being unobtainable, the Rainmaker hairstyle has returned to the Gold Saucer for good. This hairstyle can be purchased for 5,000 MPG from the Modern Aesthetic Saleswoman (X:5.4, Y:6.5) in the Gold Saucer.
Hairstyles Received Through Events
Strife
Strife is another hairstyle that is currently impossible to obtain. It is the beloved hairstyle of Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy 7.
This hairstyle was only awarded to those who participated in various contests during the 2019 Fan Festivals.
Lucian Locks
This hairstyle was given out in the 2019 event, A Nocturne for Heroes. During the event, you could quest with Noctis from Final Fantasy 15.
The event was brought back in early 2022, allowing a fresh batch of players to participate. Between the great glam and cool car, A Nocturne for Heroes has a lot going for it, and the Lucian Locks only serve to enhance it all.
