Abyssal Armor is the most powerful armor set a player can acquire in Darksiders 3. It’s been a staple of the series and enhances Fury’s abilities to their maximum potential. But obtaining this set of armor can be tricky.
For starters, players will need the Keepers of the Void DLC. Afterward, there is a series of challenging events and boss fights before the player is granted the powers of the Abyss. Here are some general tips and directions for how to get this armor.
11 Acquire Each Hollow Armor
The first thing the player will want to do is acquire all of the Hollow Armor sets; Flame, Storm, Force, and Stasis. This means defeating the Wraith, Avarice, Lust, and Gluttony bosses in the base game. Afterward Vulgrim will send the player to the Serpent Holes.
The reason for this is that the DLC areas will require the abilities provided by these armors to traverse them. The player can visit the Void as soon as they have the Flame Hollow, but they’ll be prevented from progressing until they have the others.
10 Travel Through Flame Wing
Flame Wing is the first area of the DLC expansion and requires the Flame Hollow to traverse the environment. The other Hollows will be useful for obtaining optional items, but the Flame is required.
The player will need to defeat enemies, blast the Void Orbs with charged Flame Hollow attacks and use grapple to progress through the level. After clearing through this area the player will end up in Ashen Hall where the first boss waits.
9 Defeat Aganosh
The area Aganosh is encountered in is pretty small and he’s an aggressive boss. Most attacks are obviously telegraphed and easy to avoid. The problematic moments are when he uses are explosive attacks that aren’t as obvious to spot.
The key is to stay close and use Arcane Counters. Too far away and he’ll be more likely to use explosive maneuvers. Havoc Form and Wrath attacks help a lot in this fight.
8 Travel Through Storm Wing
After defeating Aganosh the player will be using their Storm Hollow and Flame Hollow for the Storm Wing section. Most of the Void Orbs will only need a Storm Hollow blast, but a few leading to optional items need a Flame Hollow blast first.
Most of the puzzles involve moving blocks and using wind gusts to move around. After traversing this area the player will enter The Swirling Gate. This is where the boss Zyon is located.
7 Defeat Zyon
Zyon is very similar to Aganosh both visually and in fighting style. He’s a bit faster, combos more, his attacks are lightning based, and he uses the same explosive moves.
As a result the tactics that were used to take down Aganosh will apply just as well here. The player will just need to be on their toes a little more as this enemy moves a bit faster and is more skilled at fighting.
6 Travel Through Force Wing
The Force Wing section of the Void will require the use of the Force Hollow, though the others will be used to get to different areas and acquire useful items.
The puzzles here are all about creating platforms out of the blocks to jump up and down on. There are also numerous ‘elevators’ the player can ride around to get to different areas. Once this area is traversed the player will enter the Dark Nebula where Roarakk waits.
5 Defeat Roarakk
Roarakk is visually similar to the others and mirrors their combat techniques. The main difference with him is that he’s a little more heavily armored and his explosive maneuvers are a bit different.
He has the same Charged Explosion as the others, but his Stomp and Force Mine will create large shockwaves that deal severe damage. It’s important to avoid the shockwaves if the player wants t win the fight.
4 Travel Through Stasis Wing
The final area to travel through is the Stasis Wing. All Hollow powers will be needed to access the items here and the Stasis Hollow is required to progress.
The idea is to create stasis walls to solve the puzzles and move forward. It’s also important to check out the underwater areas for helpful items. Successfully navigating this areas leads to the Eternium Spire where Dovox is waiting.
3 Defeat Dovox
Once again Dovox is very similar to the previous bosses, but represents the toughest of the lot. He’s not necessarily faster or more resilient, but his Stasis Mine is what makes him so dangerous.
He can launch up to three mines in the area that will explode damaging most of the arena. The key to fighting Dovox is to use the previous strategies, but also being careful about positioning within the arena. This is necessary to stay in the small safe zones where the mines won’t damage.
2 Defeat Final Boss Ionos In The Void
Entering the portal that appears after defeating Dovox takes the player to the final boss Ionos. Ionos is a composite of the previous four bosses using many of their tactics and special moves. Each limb is capable of utilizing a different element and he possess all of the devastating explosive attacks.
When his health is down to 75% he’ll draw swords and use those to fight. He’ll also tweak his attack style. The key throughout the fight is to stay close enough to force him to use melee and avoid triggering his ranged attacks at all cost. Defeating him and returning to Vulgrim will net the player the Abyssal Armor.
1 Enhance It In New Game +
A bonus step to consider is continuing the game into New Game +. Once the player is in the new round Ulthane will happily enhance the armor further if the player has the requisite Oblivion Ore. The durability, stats, and attack power will all see an improvement from this upgrade.
It’s obviously not required, but something players should strongly consider if they plan on venturing into New Game + and the higher difficulties as the game gets noticeably harder. Oblivion Ore is exclusively found in New Game + and drops from Shadow enemies.
