After a lengthy early access period on PC, Stranded Deep has just had its console release, and a bevy of new players are now diving into this challenging survival game. One thing that many fans will immediately notice as they begin their time with Stranded Deep is that the default setting for a controller is non-inverted, and indeed some players will want to change that as quickly as possible. For these fans, this guide will shine some light on how to invert the Y-axis in Stranded Deep.
To note, there is currently no way to invert the Y-axis from within Stranded Deep on PS4 or Xbox One. This is something that was recently confirmed by developer Beam Team Games on Twitter, and it is indicated that the ability to invert the Y-axis in Stranded Deep is something that will be added “as soon as possible.” While this will certainly prove problematic for some players, there is a workaround that fans playing on Xbox One can use if they would like to.
Specifically, it is possible to invert an Xbox One controller’s Y-axis entirely from within system settings. This is done under button mapping, and while it may not be ideal to invert a controller’s Y-axis completely, especially for those players that will be swapping frequently between other games and Stranded Deep, it will at least allow them to play this difficult game with their preferred control scheme.
Unfortunately, fans playing Stranded Deep on PS4 are not so lucky, as it is not possible to easily invert the Y-axis systemwide on Sony’s extremely popular console. This means that PS4 players that want to play Stranded Deep with an inverted Y-axis will need to wait for the developer to launch the feature, and that may be a deal breaker for fans that have a lot of trouble playing with a non-inverted controller.
Of course, getting a controller setup properly is only the beginning of the hardships that players must overcome in Stranded Deep, as they will have to figure out how to do things like cure poison, get water, and much more if they hope to survive. Indeed, this title can prove rather challenging, and it will certainly be even harder for those fans that are forced to play with an unfamiliar Y-axis.
Stranded Deep is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
