People just can’t get enough of The Witcher’s war-torn world. Anything relating to the franchise is in high demand, be it the games, books, show, or spin-offs. The battle strategy card game, Gwent is a favorite in-world mini-game and now a standalone title for mobile and PC. There’s also the gripping Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, an RPG meets deck builder.

Now, for those who wish to lead their own adventure in this macabre fantasy, there is the tabletop The Witcher Pen & Paper RPG. What’s more, fans can test it out for free before committing to this vast, player-driven expansion of The Witcher universe.

Tell A Unique Witcher Tale

This tabletop RPG takes place amidst the Third Nilfgaardian War. Those who’ve played The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt will know Geralt is intent in his quests of finding his longtime flame, Yennefer, and rescuing Ciri, his child surprise. However, there are countless other tales to be told in this war-stricken world, and it’s up to the players to tell them.

Players choose from nine classes, including witchers, bards, mages, merchants, and criminals. Alas, not everyone is suited to the role of white knights. Players devise a backstory for their characters, such as a Dwarven craftsman venturing from the Mahakam mountains in search of work or an Elven criminal evading persecution. They then set out on their own unique adventure across the vast Continent.

The Witcher: Easy Mode

Before investing in the full TRPG, players have the option to test drive a slimmed-down PDF version known as The Witcher: Easy Mode. This sample offers an easily digestible account of the essential rules, pre-generated characters, and a trial adventure.

The Witcher: Easy Mode was initially given away in stores internationally as part of Free RPG Day 2019. This free trial version is again being made available, this time in a downloadable PDF format on DriveThruRPG.

The Witcher Pen and Paper RPG is the product of R. Talsorian Games Inc. in co-operation with the developers of the main series games, CD Projekt Red. For newcomers to the concept of tabletop roleplay, The Witcher: Easy Mode is a fantastic way for The Witcher fans to test the waters of such a complex genre.
