Last month, the once-popular live mobile game show HQ Trivia was shut down. But HQ Trivia has not stayed dead for long. Those who didn’t uninstall the HQ Trivia app from their phones were just hit with a push notification that confirmed that HQ Trivia is coming back tonight.
The shock return of HQ Trivia was confirmed by CEO Rus Yusupov on Twitter. As announced by Yusupov, HQ Trivia will be live tonight, March 29, at 9pm ET, which was the usual time slot for the live mobile game show. Furthermore, Yusupov confirmed that Matt Richards, HQ Trivia’s second main host after the departure of original host Scott Rogowsky, will be the host for tonight’s show.
It’s unclear just how extensive this HQ Trivia return will be. It’s possible that this is a one-shot deal, but it’s also possible that HQ Trivia will be back on a full-time basis. If so, it will be interesting to see if other HQ Trivia games also return, like HQ Words, and its host Anna Roisman. Roisman has yet to comment on the show’s return, but did re-tweet the announcement.
Prior to HQ Trivia’s demise, the game was surrounded with controversy. There was reportedly a failed mutiny against CEO Rus Yusupov, and former host Scott Rogowsky would end up blaming its cancellation on the CEO’s “sociopathic delusion.” There were also issues with players reportedly not getting paid their winnings, including a player who won a $20,000 game.
Considering the controversy that has surrounded HQ Trivia in the past, it will be interesting to see just how many players tune in to its big return show tonight. HQ Trivia may never reach the heights it once did, where it had celebrity guest hosts like The Rock and Danny DeVito, but maybe it can bring back at least some of its once-dedicated fan base.
HQ Trivia is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
