While HQ Trivia isn’t quite as popular as it once was, the live trivia game show still regularly pulls in hundreds of thousands of players each day. At least some of the game’s success can be attributed to its charismatic host Scott Rogowsky, a comedian who has been the face of HQ since its inception in 2017. Unfortunately for fans of Scott (aka Quiz Khalifa, Host Malone, and The Quiz Daddy), he is officially out as the HQ Trivia host and has been replaced by Matt Richards.
The decision to replace Scott as host of HQ Trivia was made by HQ CEO Rus Yusupov. Apparently, Yusupov didn’t want to work out a deal so that Scott could host b0th HQ and the baseball show ChangeUp, making Scott choose between the two jobs. Largely due to his passion for baseball, Scott went with ChangeUp over HQ.
Fans will no doubt miss Scott, but Matt Richards has proven to be a popular host as well. Matt has hosted the show on a part-time basis, usually filling in when Scott is absent, and according to Yusupov, he is actually more popular with HQ’s top players than Scott. Yusupov is basing this claim on a SurveyMonkey survey that was conducted with HQ’s top players.
In the meantime, HQ Trivia fans can expect the other hosts that have been appearing on the show recently to keep showing up. Celebrity guest hosts are also in the cards. In the past, HQ has been hosted by The Rock, Danny DeVito, and even the Muppets, so just about anyone can make an appearance on the live trivia game show.
Even with celebrity guests and Matt installed as the new prime-time host of HQ, there will no doubt be some that are upset that Scott is leaving HQ and that he didn’t even have a farewell game. It will be interesting to see if Scott’s role as host had a significant impact on the number of people who tuned in to play HQ Trivia every night or if the live trivia game show will be able to maintain its numbers moving forward.
HQ Trivia is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
