Humankind is the latest title from Sega and Amplitude Studios that was set to release in 2020. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the development of the game was shifted towards working from home. Because of this, Amplitude Studios has announced Humankind will be delayed until 2021.

COVID-19 has affected the development of many game titles, but Humankind was already given a vague release date back in late 2019. As of now, there is still no exact release date, with the title’s new, vague release window in 2021. However, Amplitude Studios may have found ways to speed up the development by starting their OpenDev initiative.

OpenDev will allow players to try limited scenarios in the game and return feedback to the developers. This will allow the developer a little extra help with finalizing the game, but also getting valuable player feedback with gameplay. Humankind is set to be a historical strategy game that takes players through the many ages of history, much like the popular video game title, Civilization.

The player feedback will be very important for Humankind because it will be competing with many strategy games that have been established and polished for a long time. When Humankind released a gameplay trailer, many saw the similarities to games like Civilization, however, Humankind looks visually stunning and gives players customization of their leaders, which can separate it from many top strategy games. Hopefully, the community-based development will speed up and polish the development for a 2021 release.

Humankind is set to release in 2021.
