The original Hyrule Warriors is a musou-style game that uses characters from The Legend of Zelda franchise, where heroes and villains from the series battle against hundreds of enemy troops at once. The game was originally released for the Wii U in 2014, before receiving an updated port for the Nintendo 3DS in 2016. Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition was released for the Nintendo Switch in 2018 and it included all of the DLC and extra features from the previous versions of the game.

The original Hyrule Warriors is an entertaining game, but it’s still just a musou title that uses Zelda characters instead of robots or samurai. The fact that Age of Calamity will be showing a pivotal moment in the history of Breath of the Wild means that it’s instantly more interesting as a Zelda title, and people who are looking forward to the upcoming sequel to Breath of the Wild will want to learn more about the history of the world and what it means for the future of Hyrule.

The Switch’s 2020 schedule has been comparatively dry, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Ring-Fit Adventure, and numerous ports of older games being the only thing holding the year together. This lack of software is seemingly working in Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition’s favor, as fans have plenty of time to check out the original game, before Age of Calamity is released in a couple of months.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will be released for Nintendo Switch on November 20, 2020.
