Nickelodeon is one of TV’s premier sources of tween television, pumping out dozens of shows usually starring young actors that may have some sort of lasting star-power. One of the more famous examples of this was iCarly, which starred Miranda Cosgrove, who originally appeared in Drake and Josh. The show starred Cosgrove as the titular Carly alongside friends Sam and Freddie as they ran an internet video show and dealt with the challenges of young adult life. It was fairly popular and ran for some time, but as the cast inevitably aged up the show came to a conclusion back in 2012.
Now it has been officially confirmed that Paramount+ is reviving the series with several of the original actors as an exclusive to its Paramount+ streaming platform. As of reporting, original stars Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress (Carly, Spencer, and Freddie, respectively) are signed on to star in the show, though Jennette McCurdy has not been announced to return as Sam.
While iCarly was successful in its time, those involved never had their careers take off quite like other Disney/Nick stars. The most famous person from that era is likely Ariana Grande, who starred in Victorious as well as iCarly/Victorious crossover Sam & Cat. Most of the actors involved still take TV/voice roles, but haven’t had any big long term commitments which would prevent them from returning. McCurdy has yet to comment on the iCarly revival, but she has mentioned that she is excited to continue working as host on the podcast Empty Inside.
This revival comes as part of CBS All Access’s rebranding into Paramount+. The service has announced a wide arrange of shows including the libraries of BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, and additional Paramount films. The company has reported that Paramount+ will contain 30,000 episodes and films for subscribers, on top of the upcoming original shows that will be produced by their various partners. There isn’t much information about the iCarly reboot or when it will appear, but in the meantime there are several other original shows to follow, including the sequel series Saved by the Bell, which also features some returning cast members from the original show.
The iCarly reboot is in development.
