IGN took an in-depth look at both the new PS5 DualSense and the Xbox Series X controllers.

Before we’re even given a hint of what the new PlayStation 5 will look like, Sony has revealed the DualSense controller. It’s a significant departure from previous designs and one that will surely set the PS5 apart from its counterparts. A new two-tone color design perhaps signals at the PS5 being a mostly white console, while the new shape takes a page out of the Xbox playbook by giving it a more ergonomic shape.

On the Microsoft side, the Xbox Series X controller is a far more modest update over the Xbox One. The largest difference is the redesigned D-pad that took player feedback into account. We know that the Xbox Series X controller will still use AAA batteries, but that was a design choice that was also fueled by player feedback, even though it seems wildly environmentally unfriendly.

Microsoft also stole Sony’s “share” button design to allow the Xbox Series X to participate far more on social media, while the DualSense tosses the DualShock’s battery-draining lightbar.
