Following the string of protests that have begun taking place in the United States last week, IGN has delayed the start of its “Summer of Gaming” Livestream event until June 8, 2020. In an official statement on Twitter, the company stated it made the decision “out of respect for and in support of those rightfully demanding justice and change across the United States and the world.”
The company hasn’t announced a replacement schedule, but it seems likely that everything previously announced will be shifted four days. That means something like the Yakuza: Like a Dragon footage previously slated for June 9 will probably air on June 14. That’s a small price to pay to give our fellow man the due respect they deserve.
Along with encouraging readers to donate money to various organizations, Humble (which is owned by IGN) has created a new $1 million fund to help publish games created by black developers. The company Tweeted out a short message and will be sharing more about the fund in the coming days.
When the stream does officially kick-off, expect the first day to be packed with more announcements and reveals than previously hinted. There’s going to be a lot to keep track of, but we’ll do our best to give you all of the news.
