In countries like Brazil, gamers will have a much tougher choice to make should they want to play some of the next generation’s marquee games.

There were a number of big talking points as we built towards the next generation of consoles, which we guess is technically the current generation at this point. The size of the PS5, how much each of the new consoles would cost, and if there would be enough to go around at launch. The answer to that last one is a resounding no, as many of you will be well aware of.

Another big point of controversy was the reveal that major games will cost a little more than they have done on the previous two generations of consoles. The price will be hiked up from $60 to $70 for a lot of games going forward. Many have argued that’s fair enough and they’re okay with the change. However, for other gamers, it’s the difference between buying a game or having to wait for it to reduce in price.

Outside of countries like the US and Japan, Brazil is one of the biggest nations in the world when it comes to gaming. However, large parts of the South American country are in poverty. Redditor the_kandra has revealed that some Brazilian gamers will have to sacrifice 25% of their monthly income for a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 when the highly anticipated game is finally released later this week.

“Here, the minimum wage is around R$1045, that is, roughly U$200. A copy of Cyberpunk 2077 in Brazil costs around R$250, or 1/4 of your monthly income,” the Redditor explains. In other parts of the world, if someone was asked to part with a quarter of their income for a whole month for just one game, chances are they wouldn’t be buying that game, at least not brand new.

It’s things like this that make free-to-play games so popular in countries like Brazil. After the US and Turkey, Brazil has the largest share of League of Legends’ player base. Luckily for Brazilian players and others around the world who don’t want to spend $70 on games, there are more F2P options than ever. More than enough to fill a console’s SSD with nothing but free games if that’s what you want to do.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available for PC on GOG.COM, Steam and Epic, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Stadia from December 10, 2020. When you buy Cyberpunk 2077 on GOG.COM, 100% of your money goes to CD PROJEKT Group and supports their future projects.
