It’s been quite a while since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt hit stores, but the game still has a handful of layers to discover. Based on Slavic mythology, The Witcher 3 introduces you to the character of Geralt of Rivia, a monster slayer, and his quest to find a missing witcher while escaping the Wild Hunt.
Great people helped voice the many characters of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. If it wasn’t for these talented actors and actresses who brought the characters to life, The Witcher 3 wouldn’t have ended up becoming one of the greatest video games of all time. Voice-acting is not easy, and their underrated talent deserves more recognition. Here are what ten Witcher 3 characters look like, compared to their real-life counterparts.
10 Lambert (Christian Contreras)
Love or loathe this character, Christian Contreras really did give one hell of a job to deliver such a hatable young, biting-tongue witcher like Lambert. Contrary to his in-game character, Contreras is a married man to the first female Doctor Who, Jodie Whitaker, in real life and a father of one.
Aside from The Witcher 3, Contreras is no stranger to voice acting. He has a pretty solid CV in video games, including Star Wars: Battlefront, Enemy Front, Killzone: Mercenary, and Company of Heroes 2.
9 Phillip Strenger (James Clyde)
Also known as the Bloody Baron, Phillip Strenger has fought several wars prior to the events of Witcher 3. James Clyde, the actors behind this character, has played for several films & series about war and action, including New Tricks, The Bill, and Black Earth Rising.
Speaking about his character, however, The Witcher 3 was Clyde’s voice-acting debut. After that, he ventured further into the video game industry by voicing for Nioh & Battlefleet Gothic. Not bad for a first-timer.
8 Dijkstra (Richard Hawley)
Sigismund Dijkstra, better known as the monstrous seven-feet tall man and the head of the Redanian Intelligence, is played by Richard Hawley. Is he even that tall and gigantic in real life? The answer is no. In fact, he is a 5ft 6 ½ (168.9 cm) man.
Besides his Witcher 3 character, Hawley also plays a massive part in ZombiU, where he voices a mysterious figure called The Prepper.
7 Cyprian Wiley (Ewan Bailey)
Cyprian ‘Whoreson Junior’ Wiley, one of the four Novigrad crime bosses, is portrayed by Ewan Bailey, an actor and an Oxford University graduate in Modern History. The BAFTA-winning actor and film director is the head honcho of his own studio production company called Ewan Bailey Films.
Besides The Witcher 3, Bailey is a well-renowned name in the voice-acting community. He made his debut in 2004 as an NPC in Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King before making his big break with a Star Wars game adaptation, The Old Republic.
6 Emhyr (Charles Dance)
Portraying such a villainous character Emhyr var Emreis is no easy task, but an A-list actor like Charles Dance definitely nailed the role. Even though it was his debut role in The Witcher, the Game of Throne’s regular made a good impression and later joined Activision for Call of Duty: Black Ops III as Godfrey the Butler.
Besides that, the two-time winner of Screen Actors Guild Awards and Emmy-nominated actor is known as Guy Perron in The Jewel in the Crown and Lord Mountbatten in The Crown.
5 Keira (Katie McGuinness)
Keira Metz is a determinant partner to Lambert and an eccentric sorceress. London-based Katie McGuinness is the actress who brought this character to life. Aside from The Witcher 3, the Snowpiercer actress had worked with Ubisoft for Assassin’s Creed III, where she played Gillian McCarthey, a manipulative Templar seductress, and Xenoblade Chronicles as Tyera.
4 Triss Merigold (Jaimi Barbakoff)
As legendary Temerian sorceress, Geralt’s possible love interest Triss Merigold is also known as ‘The Fearless.’ Along with Keira, she’s also a member of King Foltest’s royal council.
In this game, Jaimi Barbakoff reprised her role as Triss. She’s no stranger to video game motion-capturing, having previously voiced for Final Fantasy XIV as Cirina and Dragon Quest Heroes, respectively, in 2010 and 2015.
3 Yennefer (Denise Gough)
2 Ciri (Jo Wyatt)
Ciri is the center of The Witcher 3, and thanks to Jo Wyatt’s portrayal, her character feels more than alive. Since 1997, the British actress has voiced and mo-capped for a plethora of video games, including classic hits Feeble Files and Star Wars: The Old Republic.
As of this writing, Wyatt has relocated to Los Angeles with her family but continuously flies back to London to finish some projects.
1 Geralt (Doug Cockle)
The last is Geralt of Rivia, our beloved monster slayer, and the game’s main protagonist. Although this may come as a surprise because Doug Cockle does not really resemble his Witcher 3 character, his performance nailed him a win of the Golden Joystick Award Best Gaming Performance and a nomination for Best Performance at the Game Awards 2015.
However, Geralt’s Netflix version is portrayed by Henry Cavill, known for his role as Superman in the DC Extended Universe.
