The Indie MegaBooth’s last appearance was at PAX East in February. The booth was a showcase for independent developers and publishers with big and small followings alike, and made convention appearances for nine years at gatherings like Gamescom, E3 and PAX West and South.

The MegaBooth was also involved in last month’s Steam Game Festival prior to winding down operations. Founder Kelly Wallick cited concerns for the health and safety of staff members and developers alike as the reason behind the booth’s closure, and announced an upcoming Steam sale, the Indie MegaBooth Going Away (For Now) Sale, for fans to support the event staff and its affiliated developers. The sale will run from May 5th to 12th.

Past Indie Megabooths have featured successes like Risk of Rain 2, Don’t Starve, Hotline Miami 2 and A Hat in Time, as well as a laundry list of titles with small but dedicated fanbases. The staff founded the traveling event with the goal of sharing niche titles with a bigger audience, and eventually grew large enough to gain support from Intel, Oculus, Xbox and PlayStation and the studios behind more than 700 games.

While the Megabooth temporarily ceasing operations is a blow to the past and present developers affiliated with the event, Wallick and the company behind the booth intend to return to show floors when the COVID-19 pandemic subsides. With the number of independent developers and successful indie games across the globe growing substantially since its founding in 2011, the event’s influence will continue for years to come, even if it has to take some time off.
