DC Comics fans are looking forward to the upcoming DC FanDome event, whether they’re excited about upcoming DC Comics-related movies, comics, or video games. Announcements are expected across the board. One rumored game, in particular, is the focus of a lot of speculation, that being the DC Comics spin-off fighting game Injustice 3. Injustice 3 hasn’t been officially announced, but evidence continues to grow that the August 22 event will lead to its reveal.
Yesterday came the first major evidence of Injustice 3’s likely reveal at the DC FanDome event. Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat and the creative director on the Injustice franchise, was confirmed to be attending DC FanDome. However, his name was simply one of many on a very long list. It left space for misunderstanding. That may have changed since, though, with further confirmation of Boon’s participation directly from Injustice’s comic write, Tom Taylor.
In a recent tweet, Taylor teased the upcoming DC FanDome event and tagged several others who will be participating. Boon was one of the names listed by Talor, someone Taylor chose to highlight out of dozens of names. But the fun doesn’t end there. Taylor also listed Dominic Cianciolo, who isn’t just a NetherRealm Studios employee, too, but is the studio’s story director. Boon and Cianciolo would be who Taylor would work with on an Injustice’s story, so that the games and comics would stay in canon.
And Taylor has good reason for wanting to stay in canon, as he Taylor has spent the past several weeks teasing a major comic announcement. Injustice: Year Zero is going to explore the dark history of the Injustice universe. The event that led to Super Man’s turn toward fascism may have had roots in that extended into the past, now revealed in a brand new digital-first comics. Taylor will be sharing news about Injustice: Year Zero at FanDome and it may be directly tied to NetherRealm’s next project.
Taylor’s teases could very well imply that the next major Injustice game won’t be Injustice 3. Rather, they could be based on Taylor’s new project, Injustice: Year Zero. Injustice: Year Zero actually makes a lot of sense, because it’ll feature a ton of classic DC heroes from the post-WW2 Golden Age of comics. It’s the perfect opportunity to expand Injustice’s roster.
