All signs point towards Fortnite’s map getting flood as Season 2 becomes Season 3, but might the transition also include a visit to Bikini Bottom?
This week was supposed to mark the end of Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 2. Instead, Epic is making us wait (at least) another week in a situation that is becoming all too familiar. Season 1 was subject to so many delays that it wound up becoming the longest season in Fortnite history. Fingers crossed Season 2 doesn’t break that record.
Don’t panic. The likelihood of that is almost impossible. Epic seems confident that it only needs an extra week to get its ducks in a row and on June 11, the new season will be ushered in. In typical Fortnite fashion, what might happen to commemorate the switch is still unknown. The belief is that Fortnite’s map will be subject to a flood on a biblical scale.
Further proof that a flood is coming was leaked on the PS Store on Monday. Fortnite’s icon changed to an image of the Battle Bus skimming along the surface of the water. Players believe the water has come up to the level of the bus rather than vice versa. A tiny island off in the background of the image above has also got players speculating about something else coming to Season 3.
Spongebob Squarepants. The theory has been born from the fact that the island in the distance looks very similar to the one featured during the opening credits of the Nickolodeon show. Plus, it seems as if Season 3, or at least the beginning of it, might take place underwater. Why not include Bikini Bottom as a named location if that’s the case?
There is reason to be skeptical about this theory, of course. It has been pointed out on Twitter that the island has made an appearance during a previous Fortnite trailer, all the way back in Season 9 of Chapter 1. Then again, with the release of Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated hitting virtual shelves later this month, it makes sense that its developers would want to raise awareness for its release via a high profile crossover event with Fortnite.
