Sony is reportedly bidding to purchase Leyou Technology Holdings, which is a parent company to several major game development studios. Exactly what effect this would have on the games developed by those studios is as of yet unknown, but Leyou’s subsidiary companies are known for some pretty popular games.
Most notably, Leyou is the parent company of Splash Damage and Digital Extremes. Splash Damage is best known for the Wolfenstein series, but also worked on the development of recent Gears of War games alongside The Coalition. Digital Extremes will be recognizable to Warframe fans, as this company developed that game.
Sony claims that adding Leyou to its folds would help to increase the content it has under its belt, which in turn would strengthen its brand as a whole. It does seem that this studio is hotly contested as there are many placing bids on it, so it’s really a matter of how much Sony is willing to pay.
None of this is settled yet, as there are others bidding on Leyou and yet more bids may come in. Regardless, the higher ups at Leyou plan to sign a deal by the end of July and sell the company, so it shouldn’t be long before the effects of this sale become clear.
