2020 has been a strange year for many reasons, but the resurgence of retro gaming consoles has been something to rejoice. Accompanying the hype of Analogue’s Game Boy-like handheld Pocket, Intellivision Entertainment announced yesterday that its special Amico event would be rescheduled for today, August 5th.

Intellivision apologized to fans for the event’s delay, but promised to deliver a show that would not disappoint. The event is scheduled to broadcast at 10am PDT/1pm EDT/7pm CET. Intellivision offered Amico followers the chance to indulge in the first level of Moon Patrol, that was made available on the Amico Club app to entertain until the show today.

Intellivision Amico is expected to make its first in-depth appearance during the event, that will show off the developer’s contribution to next-gen hardware. The gaming industry got its first look at the console last year, during E3 2019 and Gamescom, where industry insiders were given the chance to play in-development games on a fully-functioning Amico. Intellivision has since released a gameplay trailer that has previewed many of the 2D games that will be available to play on the Amico from launch.

With the inspiration to “bring family and friends together again," Intellivision tweaked its marketing strategy to accommodate the gaming community’s recovery from lockdown. Aiming to provide a console that brings people together instead of isolating them, Amico is built to “redefine” the joy of gaming with the people closest to you.

Amico will be sold with six pre-loaded games, offering additional games to be purchased between $2.99 - $9.99. All of the games feature an E for Everyone rating across the library, that eliminates any graphic violence or bad language. Keeping on top of current controversies, Intellivision has stated that Amico will not feature any ads, downloadable content, loot boxes or in-game purchases, presumably in response to the recent predicament surrounding gambling-related purchases in-game.

Its simple design, that resembles a noughties-like product, was formatted to introduce a “new era” of gaming, that was built on the back of the original 1979 Intellivision system that housed many practical features. Amico will be available in standard black or white, with limited edition colors including vintage woodgrain and GTO red.

Intellivision has already received over 10,000 preorders since March for the Amico VIP, that gamers have reserved for the neat price of $249 for the standard version or $279 for the limited edition.
