A good multiplayer game is ever-changing, always in a state of evolution. Hardly ever will a formula be perfect upon its release to the public, and the same rings true for Call of Duty: Warzone. Infinity Ward has already tweaked the game in a number of different ways, but the time has come for developers to give its current perk system some attention.
Although games should certainly keep their distinct identities, I wouldn’t mind seeing Warzone adopt characteristics from other great battle royales. Apex Legends, for instance, has extremely unique characters to pick from. If Warzone deepened the effects of certain perks, loadouts could start to bear more individuality. As of now, they feel a bit stale and often won’t do much to change the game.
Although passive abilities are difficult to balance, experimenting with small, thoughtful changes would likely result in a more interesting, engaging experience. Eventually, it would even be great to see Infinity Ward adopt a frequent Blizzard practice – opening test playlists for players to try out potential in-game changes.
Regarding preexisting perks, a few modifications would be awesome to see. Players would likely receive alterations positively, on the condition that the nature of the perks themselves remains in tact.
Redditor “u/Zin_Zags” made a great post on the topic last week, offering up plenty of interesting ideas for perk reworks. One of the Redditor’s proposed changes was to have the Scavenger perk replenish one armor plate after slaying an opponent. Considering the very quick time-to-kill in Warzone, the change would allow for players to opt for greater longevity. Another suggestion was to have the Quick Fix perk also AoE heal your nearby teammates upon securing a kill. Suggestions like these are appealing because they wouldn’t change the nature of the perks themselves, they would rather serve to deepen their value to a player/squad – thus allowing for more individual expression within the game.
Lastly, Warzone-specific perks would be amazing. Having extra perks that are exclusive to certain playlists could help bring out their value. For example, having a perk that grants greater resilience to the enclosing gas would be both useful and unique. Either way, the current perks are an untapped goldmine that Infinity Ward can use to spice up their battle royale.
